That's probably THEE part you need to remove and clean....You can clamp the tank in a wood working vice, but pad it very well and I use a rubber routing mat to help it grip. Don't egg the tank! Like mentioned increasing steady pressure and the correct sized wrench will do the job, not an adjustable type. I also have some stuff called PB Blaster...works great to penetrate the joint. Doug

Well, I finally got the valve off. Good lord, that was on there. I pulled out the air/pump and soaked everything in vinegar. Blew it out, put it all back together. Now I get a slight whooshing sound as I pump the tank, but it seems more like an air leak than anything else. No fuel bubbling like I got with the stove. So I'm still doing something wrong. Sigh. Going to have to tear it all apart and try again.

I'd recommend putting it together in stages. Assemble the tank up to the point that you can put the control valve in it. Pump it up with no fuel in it...put it under water to see if you have any leaks around the valve body and the tank, filler cap, pump etc...then the frame rest and the rest of the parts. Just sort of lets you know where you may have a problem before you get it completely back together. Also there is a gas resistant teflon tape that you can use between the valve and the tank. Doug

while you had it apart, did you remove the F/A tube that goes in the tank from the bottom of the valve assembly?

also give that Fuel/air spring a little tug to stretch it out a bit (about 1/4 should do nicely)

Yes, and it looked perfectly clean. (but what do I know?) I pulled out the other spring assembly and let all that soak for a bit, then blew it out. I guess I have to try again, bit by bit like Doug suggested.

I haven't even gotten to the Turd yet!

I found an Army/Navy surplus store (in Old Town Orange for the SoCal folks) that sells NOS parts and a very nice guy who encouraged me to keep trying.

The 275 fired right up with a new cap - which I then discovered that the filler cap for the 200a was bad and not holding pressure. Remember the air leak noise I mentioned in a previous post? That was it. Seems like a gasket or something deteriorated. So I swapped caps around, and with a new generator for the 200a, I have two working lanterns!!!

I'm headed back to the surplus store tomorrow to see if they have a gasket - or I'll just grab a new cap and be done with it.

Wow! They look great. I can understand your frustration. I recently had to take one apart 6 or 7 times before I found the problem. Pretty soon they will be second nature to you, and everyone in the neighborhood will be bring them to you to trouble shot for them. At least thats what happened to me.

I had the sam problem with a colman stove I bought from a guy on CL ... it worked but was very frustratuing having to pump it evey 3 minutes of use ... I though it was the pump and disassembled it many times before I tried a new cap ... the older caps gaskets deterioriate; the new ones solve the problem and the gaskets seem to be the appropriate material ... sigh ...

I have two of those... and I've taken them all the way apart and dealt w/ the same issues you have had.

They both burn beautifully now.

To have "light" w/o needing to use plug-in, 110V or 12V electricity or batteries, is really something, isn't it?

I'm pretty happy - they're firing reliably now. The 275 still needs a little love with the on/off switch - it goes from full to dim/out and back to full (in the off position)

BTW, I had to get a brand new cap for the 200a - the filler cap I had doesn't have parts available for it, and according to my local expert at the Army/Navy store, were discontinued because they had a tendency to blow off. Eek.

So I'll just keep it around to show off to people.
