1947 Modernistic Teardrop - SOLD

Postby sid » Sun Apr 04, 2010 12:49 pm

1947 Modernistic – Fully Restored in 2009 - $4,600

Off frame restoration

Teardrop was completely disassembled
Frame was sandblasted and repainted
Structure angle was removed, cleaned, treated, repainted and re-riveted
All new stainless steel screws throughout
All original aluminum - with a few character hail dings on roof
Original Windows with new seals
Original Handles
Original Fenders, but they do have some patches as you can see in the pictures
Door and Galley Hatch were completely disassembled and re-framed inside with new wood
Propane tank is dated 1948 - recertified, new fill valve and filled in 2009
Ice box in galley is used for storage, but have original ice tray with water drain
1947 Ford Hubcaps
New plywood floor
New galley hatch hinge
New LED tail and side lights
New sliding plywood doors in galley
New wheel bearings - with extra set

Dimensions - 4'x10' - with tongue 4'x12' 4"
Bed area is 4'x7' - current mattress is just over 6'
Total weight as shown – 580 lbs

No electrical system is installed – 12volt or 120 volt – we used led lights. It could easily be added, but we wanted to keep it original.
No propane line has been ran from the propane tank to the galley

I think this is as an original 1947 Modernistic as you will find, and should be good for another 64 years. Those not familiar with the Modernistic they were built from 1946-1948. They are all aluminum... walls and roof. This is a Cub which was sold as a kit and is put together with screws.

Clear title, and current State of TN registration.

Located in Smyrna, TN, just outside of Nashville.

PM or email me if interested,
Mark

So Sid are you selling your 47 so you can buy my trailer.

I hope your trailer will go to someone who will appreciate it.
It looks fantastic! And you did a outstanding job on the restoration. Good luck on your sale. - Wayne

Thanks Wayne,

It was a worthwhile project and very satisfying to save a piece of history. We feel with having the two teardrops we probably won't use it very much. Although it doesn't take up much space, nor eat very much, we don't want it just to sit under the shed.

Your restoration looks great, too. And I really can't believe you're selling the woodie.

Mark, you're selling my favorite teardrop???

I thought we talked about putting me in your will. (maybe not-must have been a dream)

Don't have the extra money right now (maybe never) but I can vouch for the trailer and the workmanship of the restoration.

Darn; "timing" is never right.

Someone will get a nice piece of history. Good luck. :applause:

Mark you asked me what trailer I would use at ADK if I sold my Woodie.
The question is what trailer will you bring when you go to ADK. When you sell the 47 that is. Will you bring the 47 if you don't sell it by that time. I'm kinda hoping that I don't sell the Woodie before ADK. Don't tell the wife.Wayne

You going to ADK this year? Darn, would have like to meet you. I was there last year in the rain.. Maybe some time in the future we'll be back. Tanya just loved the area, me to and enjoyed meeting everyone. When is it a good time to come over to the East Coast with no rain. Sorry for the Hijack.

Gage, the trick is, don't let the rain know you're coming, otherwise it will get you everytime!

But Rick, I didn't. It just followed me everywhere I went. Headed home, I was hitting it head on and it was bad. Heavy rain every day. It even greeted us at the ITG the next weekend after ADK. :rainy:

Wayne,

We are bringing the green one. Three weeks on the road, and Pat wants all the creature comforts..... Not that it's a big advantage, because there's no electric at Fish Creek Pond.

But, we have several stops along the way, ending with "Boogie in the Hills" in Ohio, and we'll hit the Finger Lakes area for a few days coming and going.

You guys did a GREAT job restoring the 47, love to see people put thier TLC into the old ones and bring them back to life for years to come, anyone would be lucky to end up with it.

Mark
So whats the word?
I cant believe that somebody hasn't picked up your trailer yet. I mean a 1947 original teardrop in perfect condition who could pass that up. I would love to have that trailer in my yard. - Wayne
