tandem recumbent trike

We have a conventional tandem but have wanted a recumbent for year. There was a presentation by one of the manufacturers at the Mid West Tandem Rally some years back and most of the couples were about our age and leaning over the bars is getting a bit painful
Got to try one out twice, from what they told us it takes about 40 miles before you become comfortable. I would love to find one, handle bars under the bottom tube.
Heard about one wife who was so pissed at hubby that she pulled his shorts down over the seat and jumped off, (would be difficult to dismount and most tandems are almost imposable to ride solo).

very nice.. very comfy and fun.. It had a regular 9speed cass and deraileur as well as internal shifting in the rear hub.. and also internal shifting in the stokers BB.

It had a very wide range of gearing.

My wife was worried how it would feel being that low to the ground.. but it was great.

I am sure it will not climb very fast.. this one weighs over 60 pounds.. but it felt better climbing than I thought. Downhill on twisty carriage roads it was a blast.

We currently own 3 tandems and have ridden them seriously for about 18 years.

I have ridden a few tandem recumbents and have liked them. Yet I am still very comfortable on our upright bikes.

This trike is just something different.. and fun. ridding with slower people it will be fun..

It might be a few years before we can fit it into the budget though..

So... many have bought the tandem recumbents. How about building your own single recumbent. Anyone tried that? How hard was it? What did you use for meta?

I probably would not build my own bent, because they are always listed on the craiglist in multiple cities near me. I haven't found a bent trike tandem, but I think that would be a blast.

Glenn... I have this one. It did take some time getting use to but I love it. I wish I could afford the tandem one for my wife and me. I know you will love it!

That's what I was thinking. For the time Jan and I are on our bikes I just can't see it. Looks like fun tho. And well made.

Around here the streets are just to busy to ride safely. We have to go to the Metro Parks to ride, and even it is getting pretty crowded.

you might like to check out www.atomiczombie.com , i am working on building a single tadpole trike right now. fairly easy using 1.5 squire tubing and common bike parts.

I would love to try a recumbent bike. We go biking on the C & O Canal in MD and love it. How much is an entry level recumbent go for?
