Ed and Ruby, Have you heard from Gern & the three Texas Teardrops? I was just wondering if they were going to make Palo Duro this year.

Hi guys and girls, It is getting closer to time, checked with Reserve America and they had 22 space available, these will fill up fast. The weather was great today and I bet it will be nice for our gathering. Woody, haven't heard from the Texas Tears but I wil try to get some e-mails or pm's out to ones we think are coming but haven't heard from. We are ready to go camping. Greg and Terri just left after a much too short 2 day visit. We had a great time, wish they could have stayed until May 13 but jobs get in the way of camping some times. We are looking forward to seeing everyone soon, so don't forget if you havent made your reseration don't wait. I will try to post a list of names of reservations we have received Monday, If you have reservations and would like for us to get your spot early Thursday , Friday or Saturday and haven't sent your information yet, just e-mail or pm yor reservarion number, name reservation is in and arrival date. We will get with Mike and Brenda and will do our best to get everyon as close together as possibe. Ed

Hi Ed, thanks for checking on things for us. Really looking forward to getting up there for a few days. Do you think we might avoid the burn ban this year? Sure would be good to have a campfire on those cool nights.

Also this is my 500th post. Only took me several years. :lol:

Woody, You would think that with all of the snow we would not have a burn ban, but I am not sure. I will check Monday and try to keep you posted on the burn ban. Ed

Since this is the first time we have camped at Palo Duro ... if they have a burn ban ... does that include charcoal ... want to plan on having our Saturday morning breakfast for everyone. Trudy

Ed,

Kim and I are planning to arrive on Thursday, possibly Wednesday night. (I just now got the time off from work) We will try to get our reservations this week (I hope it's not too late). If you guys need any help getting us all together let me know since we'll be there early as well. I'll have room in my site for a tent if we need the room.

At least two of the 3 Texas Teardrops will be there: Ron & Joe have made their reservations. I was late getting my reservation and they are now booked up for all campsites. I'll probably show up anyhow, and hang out.

Here are the fire regulations:

(h) Fires, Firewood, Smoking and Fireworks. Portable gas-fueled camp stoves may be used in designated campsites or picnic areas; however, it is an offense for any person to:

1.light, build, or maintain a fire within a state park except in a facility or device provided, maintained, or designated for such purposes or to smoke or build fires when an extreme fire hazard has been posted by the department or a burn ban has been instituted by local government ordinance;
2.gather firewood except when authorized by permit;
3.leave a fire unattended; or
4.possess within a state park any fireworks, explosives, or similar devices capable of explosion, or to discharge, set off, or cause to be discharged in or into a state park any such device or substance, except with written authorization from the director.

If there is a burn ban, which is very possible, charcoal is not allowed. The only flames allowed are from heater or stove that can be turned off instantly.

So, you'll have to have a plan B for your normal breakfast feast.

Gern and anyone else trying to make reservations. If you try online reservations, sometimes it will show it booked when there are some spaces still available. I called the Texas Parks
reservation 1-512-389-8900 about 10 minutes ago and he said there are sites still available. As we all know it does fill up quickly so if you do not have reservations you may want to call as soon as you can.
Trudy and Gary, a burn ban would make cooking in dutch ovens a real challange. The burn ban notice can change here at a moments notice but right now we are getting some rain so I will keeping checking and keep you uodated. See you soon. Ed & Ruby
