I dunno what happened, but Wes has cleaned out his album. Anyone know?

-Doug

Until we hear otherwise, he more than likely became frustrated with the issues he last posted about. Prolly wanted to start over or something.

It's a shame, really. I liked the wooden buck he made with all the cool-looking spars and ribs... I think he might've 1/8'd over that and had himself a neat-looking wooden rig!

Sorry guys, did not mean to leave anyone handing... The project stalled, and I kind of realized that I had lost my mind trying to tackle this whole plug/mold/part approach. I do not have enough money, time or knowledge to pull it off. I have salvaged the project as a single teardrop instead of mold. It is no longer "All fiberglass" and will be heavier, but something is better than nothing.

No real progress over the last 6 months due to weather, money, time and motivation. I do have all the walls and foam done. Ready to mount it on the frame and start covering it in fiberglass.

THIS type of building, I know I can do! :)

(It can't be harder than resin casting, just on a giant scale, right?)

Sorry for the late response, I have not been on here in months. If you still want to, sure you can check it out. PM me if you do, and we can find a time. I am in North Garland by Firewheel mall.

Wes good to see you back, life has it's way of re-directing us. I agree something is better than nothing.

Looking forward to seeing continued progress.

I know what you mean. I went through that with the EPA with another manufacturing operation I was involved in.
I only have 1 gallon on hand, and did not intend to mass produce or anything. I have not really lost anything yet, I have about $1,000 in it with the trailer frame. I have the completion budgeted at under $1,000. It is for my personal use, but I am sure I could sell it for $2,001 when it is done and make a nice profit... :R

Putting the deck on the trailer finally. I used a biscuit joiner every 4-6 inches and a whole bottle of Gorilla Glue to attach those three boards together...

I also have a 50' roll of 20" wide galvanized flashing that I am going to contact cement to the bottom of the deck before I screw it in with SS screws.

Thanks Bobby,

I just might take you up on that. I have to man handle the teardrop cabin onto the plywood deck.

I will probably be doing it next weekend, and begging on the board for help :D

Thanks,
Wes

Tip for ya Wes - paint the underside of the plywood any color that you may have laying around. This will create a small barrier to moister penetration. The contact Cement tends to be a little porous when it comes to water and wood. I did this on all my builds when cladding the underside with either galvanized or aluminum flashing.

I got this tip from my days as an upholsterer. High quality boat manufacturers who painted their wood on both side prior to upholstery did not suffer from rot quite as the same rate as those that did not.

An alternative to the contact cement - and a little more forgiving would be carpet / linoleum adhesive

Dohhh!!!!

I just came inside from finishing putting all the flashing on with contact cement on bare wood! :?

Speaking of which, how bout them fumes? :?

I thought about priming the wood before adding the contact cement, but I decided that that might keep the cement from properly bonding with the wood.

I ended up doing two coats of contact cement on the boards.

It seamed to stick okay. I was just thinking about screwing in some bars or something to keep it from sagging over time. It goes in between the plywood and the 2" frame and brackets, so in theory it has no where to go...
