If a man says something in camp, and no woman is around to hear it...Is he still wrong?

yes, because a woman, some where, will hear about it.... and pigeon hole it and use it against you for years..... been there..

I recall reading a story a while back about the Seminole Tribe here in Florida taking great pride in their association with Florida State University.

I find that hard to believe as a Gators fan. (kidding)

I'm Irish, I lived in Boston for seven years, and I can tell you their is no greater source of pride in that town than Celtics Leprechaun.

Maybe some of these folks doing all of this complaining should get a hobby????

I'm sorry to see the name go. The logos on the buildings, the statues are all so beautiful.

There have been some suggestions for new names. One was the Roughriders, after Teddy Roosevelt. Who knows. Someone might take offense to this too.

I think they should call themselves the, "PC Madness!" Sounds kinda wicked rough and tough.

I'm not sure but wasn't there a California team that had to change their name? In sarcasm the students called themselves the "Banana Slugs".

The reason the Board of Higher Education did it at that very moment was the tribe the approved the name was sueing if the name was ever changed. A high court somewhere was disallowing the suit as they were not considered a party to the original suit. Afterall, no one owns the name.

Personally I hope they choose not to take a nickname and just be UND. The logos and all will remain.

BTW, the old name was The Flickertails. Don't think they will be going back there. (80 years ago)

As much as I will miss the name, I am glad it is over. (I think it is over)

Long story but the named was changed fro banana slugs to the sea lions and back to banana slugs. Stanford University changed from the Indians to the Cardinals.

Political correctness will destroy us all !!!! Even Disney can't sell copies of Song of the South in the US because of "political correctness," yet that movie has some of the most recognizable Disney music and characters in it (at least from my generation). Sorry folks, it's not pretty, but it is our history. We need to accept that we know better now, learn from previous generations mistakes, and move on ... don't hide the truth. In fact, we should be teaching this to our children right along with the reasons why stereotypes are not the right way to think about others.

Security guards can't even use what I call common sense or reasonable suspision to decide who will go through additional security at the airport, who the police should pull over, or the border patrol decide who is a potential illegal alien because of "political correctness." I can't refer to a person of color (is that the current correct term?) using almost half of the words in the dictionary, but if that same person calls me any of several racial epithets it's their first amendment right because I'm not officially part of a "minority."

Words change meaning over time. Do you think that Hanna-Barbera were promoting homosexuality when Fred Flintstone is going to have a "gay old time?" The word gay used to mean happy or joyous. How about the word "thong" ... my grandparents think of a leather strap, I think of footwear, and my kids think of underwear.

Now, I'm not suggesting that we give the "N" word a free ride, but everyone is going to have to see the written word and hear speech, in the manner in which it was intended, not the way that it can be mis-construed. Do you think that there are farmers out there that are offended by the term "Aggie"? I would bet most of them know better. These team names for the most part are a source of PRIDE, not meant to offend, and in my opinion, no offence should be taken.

A politically correct society would be a society of liars, or mutes, no one would be allowed to say what they actually think, only what the others want to hear, making it unnecessary and foolish to speak at all.

About the "N" word. I hate double standards. If the "N" word is a derogatory word and African Americans don't want it used then they have to stop using it themselves. What's good for the goose is good for the gander, so to speak. In my weekend gig as an LEO, I get called the "N" word more than I care to remember by those that have run afoul of the law. It's OK for them to call me that but I can't reciprocate? I really don't have the desire to but that double standard has to stop if African Americans really want that word to go away. Just my $.02.

My high school was the Indians, now they are the Wolfpack. The indian head logo is still in the floor and no one stepped on it back then or now from what I hear, been 20 years.
