Hello All

Postby rbourne3 » Mon Apr 12, 2010 5:22 pm

I recently started camping again and want to get my old bones off the ground. I'm looking at teardrops to minimize weight, since I want to pull it with my trike. It seems after lurking for a few weeks, everyone is building very heavy teardrops. Can someone point the way to some ultralight builds? I'm looking at the new cub ultralight, and want to come in under 500 lbs. Building the trailer is not a problem, just want to find out the problems I might run into with light walls and floors.

Oh, I registered at tearjerkers also and plan to attend the Savannah get together next weekend. Can't wait to see some of these up close and in person.

I looked at that. I'm 6'2" and 275. I don't think I would fit well. I like the modern cub, just was hoping to benefit from others experience building very light trailers. I think it is designed with 3/8 walls, and I was wondering if anyone built with 1/4.

I played with the idea of dropping the ceiling 6" but decided that was too low.

Something like this? It's a standard 4x8 teardrop that weighs about 800 lbs.

Not mine- But the owner of this setup is a member here.

Jeanette built hers with 1/8" walls..... 8) You can do it but it is more prone to issues if it gets poked.

You can see her build thread here.

Roly will chime in here too cause he is the king of light and he isn't really short.

Thanks, I found some threads on lightweight construction under members designs. I had been looking under the builds and techniques sections.

I don't think there would be any problems pulling 800 lbs, I'd be worried about stopping it. I doubt my trike weighs 1500 lbs and could be nearer 1000.

!/8 inch walls sounds like just what I want. I'll start reading

Thanks
