Cast Iron question

I went to a rummage sale today and they had 3 CI skillets for $5. I only wanted the deep Wagner fryer, but he wouldnt split them up so I took all 3. Got home and was looking at the odd ball one and I cant figure out what brand it is. I has a 7 on the top of the handle and an E on the bottom. Anybody know anything about this one? Thanks as always!

Looks to be an early Lodge regular skillet the raised letter on the bottom is a molders mark, very typical of lodge. The raised 7 on top of the handle is also typical of earlier Lodge skillets. Ya got a good deal on all 3 for $5

Any good cast iron is ok even if it does not have a pedigree unless you are a CI snob....

I have some no-names that cools as well as any with a pedigree.... Its the quality of the cookware, not the name....

Im far from a CI snob. Most of my stuff is no-name except for my Griswold waffle iron. I have a couple Wagner pieces that I use daily at home, but most of my camping CI is no name and you are right, it cooks better than most others.

So, I'm wondering does knowledge of CI mean you're a CI snob? Most of the no name or unmarked CI that was produced in the U.S was made by Griswold, Wagner, Lodge and others for hardware stores, Sears, Montgomery Wards ETC.. for the sole purpose of being sold cheaper than a marked piece but with the same quality. So knowledge is power if you actually know what to look for

Knowledge does not make you a snob, A snob refuses to buy no-named cast iron, no matter how good the quality because the snob can not determine the pedigree...... Putting aside the "collector " who specializes in a "pedigreed" line but will also use, accept or deal in pieces with no pedigree....
