My thought is solo long distance USS Longbike. Big bucks but see the value. Really feel quite comfortable on my upright and the last century I came home and made dinner for the in laws. No issues with comfort except the right shoulder...the one I hit during a fall while drafting. Still has not healed but quite livable.

Torn between a CoMotion Americano or recumbent......

hmm that would be a tuff one for me. With so much time and history with more conventional bikes.. the CoMotion looks real nice.

Another advantage of a recumbent worthy of mention is.. the ease in seeing the sights. You are in a comfortable heads up- look around position.

If... when I get my recumbent tandem trike.. I don't suspect I will give up my upright bike riding.

Last nights ride:

Tuesday night's ride is supposed to be a casual group ride. I use it as recovery ride. The new ride leader keeps sending out mixed messages. Last night they split it into two groups.

We went with the "stronger" group. A 25 mile loop was picked out, and with our available day light it could not be to casual.

On this ride was some of the people that I had trouble with a little while ago.

I just hung off the back. I was not real keen on a repeat.. and last night needing a recovery ride, I was not that capable.

I did end up in the midst of them at times.. and they are fn squirrels

these guys are so used to riding alone, they have no clue how to ride in a group. People were cutting each other off all the time. I got cut off several times.. one of them not good at all. :x

We did 25 miles at just over an 18 ave. That was much easier than the over 20mph the night before.. but just a little harder than what I wanted to recover at.

We had a good ride tonight.. our tandem friends, and Matt on his single.

It was coolish out.. but wind was not bad. We had a late start, and because of the cold.. we had contemplated, about just a shorter out and back 20 miles.

Once we got to the turn around.. we another way back was decided.. further and much hillier. We started fairly casual.. or casual for this group... but with being warmed up.. and with approaching darkness we picked up the pace a bit.

We ended with 26+ miles.. at 19.3 ave.

Four days rest from rolling 40 on the river trail and the gang was present and accounted for. Heading into traffic the "big guy" climbed his pedals, stomping like a silver-back gorilla; lead was his for the moment while I chatted with the crew. Legs warmed on the first turn, eyeballed the gap, dropped a gear, and let the big cookie do the work. Rolled pass Mr. Kong noted wind direction and assumed the tuck. Looked up and saw Mike, aka "diesel" rolling in from the opposite direction. Broke a grin knowing if lead was a want, one would have to take it. His presence meant no gifts today.

Hammer time...worked declines to my advantage and enjoyed silence until the crew rolled into the first break. Heavy breathing, the usual bitching and checking rolling averages was the routine. Looked over at Mike and he gave the nod...the others knew two dogs were circling the sandbox. What he didn't know was I'm twenty pounds lighter than our last meet.

Took every hill one gear higher than before and only used the energy needed to stay one wheel ahead for the next four miles. On the return, Mike showed his rear wheel profile and I let the attacks roll until he was 75 yards ahead before responding. Found a perfect gear and closed every one. He made a right heading home and waved saying good effort. Continued the route and looked back for the crew, they were a good 3/4 mile back and I slowed. No need to roll first anymore, the real fun was over and a only a casual spin back to the vehicles was warranted.

Jeanne did one fifteen min and one thirteen min ride, a short walk, and worked around the house, plus I introduced her to my friend the foam roller.

Holding a steady 239 weight and did a 125 mile ride Saturday. Mostly flat will a few hills at Folsom Lake. Changed the food plan and experimented with Rice Syrup. The complex sugar was much different than the simple sugars normally used. Instead of the rush followed by the drop, I felt a sustained energy level throughout the ride. At eighty-five - ninety miles I could roll at 15-17 mph. Overall average was 13.8. Also instead of peanut putter / nello sandwiches I ate rice & lentils type foods (1 lb total) along with two bananas. In addition, I took more breaks, about every 30 miles and stretched. I'll do a few more 125's to condition the legs towards a double century.

I have only had time for a short work out the past few days and limited time to be on the forums.

15 mile ride in 54 minutes on Sunday, then 15 mile ride today at 56 minutes.

Trying to run in the morning or swim. Tough to get into the pool and then get to work.

Twenty minutes and resistance, Jeanne a straight thirty min ride!
 :D
I will probably add the stride cycle back into my exercise, but likely as a bike, rather than an eliptical. Thirty minutes of that was making my knees unhappy.
The best part? whenever this hybrid becomes junk (the time IS coming) I can get a better unit for the money by not fooling with dual purpose machines.
Keep up the great work, guys.

cool... you are shooting for a double. I think you are well on your way. While probably not wise, when I did my double, I had never even done a century.

One of my riding buddies, is looking at maybe trying on this year. I don't know if we will be part of it or not.

good luck..
