Alaska Boys Need New toys

WhooHoo...I've been looking for a new skiff to get out and run crab traps and salmon fish for about 6 months. It's been tough...I'm picky and don't have much to spend. Patience has paid off thought, I found this little 16 ft skiff this weekend for $2500. It has a 40 hp main and a 8hp kicker and seems to be in great shape!!!

those suzuki motors are supposed to be decent.. I was going to put one on my next guide boat before I wiped out my shoulder...what make is the hull??? the outside looks very similar to my smoker.....

It's a Duroboat hull, very similar to a Smoker. It pretty much looks like new. Most anything up here is beat because of the tides and rocky shores.

ya it looks pretty good!! sometimes it pays to wait....
now you need a hub in a can...
I carry a spare hub with bearings greased and seal installed with new hardware for those times when you upchuck a bearing on the trailer. It NEVER happens someplace convienient.. it all fits in a coffee can with some clean rags and all the tools I need to change it on the side of the road in the can..

In Juneau-speak, just about any small open boat with an outboard is a skiff. Geuss it is a "where you grew up" sort of thing. It's not uncommon for people to have a boat (21 to 36 ft sportfisher), a skiff, a zodiac (trade name for any inflatable) and a couple kayaks. You can get alot of money tied up to go out fishing!!!

My dad told me a long time ago to never calculate the cost of fishing or hunting by the pounds you bring home, it really takes the fun out of things lol

We finally found time to go out this morning....no salmon...but we ran both engines and gave the boat a good checking out...and had a great time!!!

Oh Dave, you are surely proud of your find. However remember, once you have a boat like that, you have to buy fuel, keep the motor in tip-top shape, store it in a safe place, keep it maintained to prevent leaks or similar problems, monitor the inflation of the tires, check and repack the bearings, insure it, clean it after hard use, and most importantly, find a buyer who is willing to pay you twice what you paid for it. Is it true, that a boat is simply a hole in the water, into which, you constantly pour money? Good find, enjoy............
