.... because I just found out that we don't have any new projects coming in at work, and therefore the company is temporarily closing my office. As of right now, my last day is slated to be May 7.

So... anyone in PA/MD know of companies looking to hire a CAD drafter with 3 years of experience?

This has some significance to your situation. There's hope!

Obviously continue to seek work elsewhere... but if you've any money saved... then the future doesn't look so bleak -and- you've got some teardrop time.

Good luck, Zach.

I feel your pain. Cindi got laid off last May but fortunately the teardrop was mostly finished. Unfortunately Cindi has not found another job yet. Hopefully your search will be more productive.

Good luck, Zach.

I was thinking about the beach this afternoon. Assateague Island is about 4 hours from me, and @ $20/night its pretty cheap. Sites usually book up on the weekends months in advance, but I found a bunch of sites available Mons-Thurs. Maybe I'll leave the girlfriend at home and Fred (my Beagle) and I willl take the Scuttlebutt down there for a couple days the week after I get laid off.

Could be a good time for a little R&R before coming back, getting a part-time job, and beginning a hefty job search!

So a beach trip could potentially become the Scuttlebutt's maiden voyage.

Now I continue to ponder: If I left for the beach Monday May 10, came back Thursday morning (13th), I would be back in time for Jess to get off work (@ 2pm), and then we could head to the Poconos Thursday night on our way to Tearstock!!

Then reality will smack me across the face when I get back from Tearstock.

Just heard rumor at work that we're looking for a new draftsman, but South Dakota may be a little bit of a drive for you. Good luck.

Lost, your job? Don't panic. Here's our story.

Lost my job 18 months ago. My wife never had a job in 35 years of marriage. Since that time my wife and I have discovered what it means to be alive. Working with 10 months of unemployment benefits and 8 months at a job at 1/4 my old salary, somehow we have paid off all our debts except one. When that one is gone in a few weeks we will free for the first time in years. Imagine it took losing a job to get us off our butts and pay off 30,000 in life sucking debt.

We cut up the credit cards and have learned things don't buy happiness. But freedom is priceless.

I'm not saying it was easy or pleasant because it wasn't. But I am saying we found a new way of living. Really living.

Good luck and God speed.

Zach,

I can say a little over eight years ago when I got fired. It lead me to the greatest adventure of my life. Freed from the burden I moved 250 miles, married the love of my life and started a family. It may be a little rough at times but you will be surprised at what is coming. ;)
