You mean you missed this one when you were out working on the crab? By the way, it's looking pretty good.

Careful Gage,
Guy's been doing some pretty twisted stuff with my avatar...
Maybe it's time to add another addendum to rule #1...

Okay, Gage. I'll post mine when I get my stylist to come in to do my hair, trim my eyebrows and nosehair, slap on my girdle, put on my elevator shoes, apply the wrinkle cream, and whiten my teeth.

It's too close to the holiday season to show my photo prior to that.
Here we go again!

Ira,
you could finish the ends of the rope using thread wraps around the end.
Like the thread wraps that hold the guides on a fishing rod.
lots of colors (clear too) and finish off the wraps with a coat of epoxy.
the colors look good under the epoxy but clear mono thread (or fishing line) will disappear under epoxy.

Would look cool.

Ira, try this for your rope-end finish:

now, about the dowel ... maybe, if you use a very limber thin one. I'd go with bamboo or maybe even clothes-hanger wire to wrap the rope on, then I'd dip the whole assembly in shellac or varnish, let it dry, then use a serious hot-glue attachment system for the interior.
Mopar's what my busted knuckles bleed, working on my 318s...
