I like the idea of a nautilus shell painted on the side. That would look very nice. However, I am convinced that it is more than just the mathematical symmetry. Even the proportions of length to width being as close to 0.618:1 as possible creates a far more pleasing design. We see the Golden Ratio all over God's creation. When God was pointing out the Leviathan to Job in Job 41.12, he mentioned the "graceful proportions" of that creature. When those same proportions occur in almost every plant or animal, it must be more than coincidence. It is like the signature and style of the Great Artist, God.
