Exercise Anyone?????????????

Things that don't fit anywhere else...

16.5 miles at 14.8 average with manageable wind. Assaulted a couple of overpasses. One on the middle cookie, third from the left on cassette. The other 7th gear, hitting it at 18 and pulling 11 over the crest. Four months ago it was all low gear (even on the mountain bike), at 6 mph. Feeling like a man among men.

Rolling 21 and slowed for old bones. Guy in flip flops, wool sweater, burgundy trousers, angled lid and dry feet, chugging a step through cruiser with the rhythm of a locomotive. Eased by an asked how his day was. Just fine the reply....gradually spooled back to 21 thinking about being that guy when I'm 80....except that part about the feet.

No workout tonight, just too late when I got home from Checker training (apparently I'm to be promoted)
Jeanne, on the other hand, reports one fifteen and one thirty min ride
she seems to be taking this whole exercise thing serious.
Almost forgot, couldn't post last night, but my usual twenty min walk and Total gym workout.
Jeanne two fifteen min rides

no work out for me either.. we had another nasty cold front come through.. but this time thunder storms came along with it. So no ride. I had not got much sleep the night before.. and just did not have the motivation to do anything inside..

We have a meeting tonight.. but was able to get in about a 50 min. mountain bike ride.....I have a lot of my own trails out back... and they are hilly.. so it can be a fairly intense ride.. :D

more wild storms.. strong wind and rain. .. the rain hit and miss. We did try another ride.. we had a bit of wind but missed the worst of it.. we did see a lot of tree's down though.. and we had to alter our route a bit.. but except for a few drops.. we missed the rain.. although it did chase us around a bit.

25 miles at 18.8

22 miles averaging 15.8 in rolling hills with crosswinds and headwind final 2 miles. Was able to pull 18 into the wind.

Was impressed with Pete, a 57 year old classical Irish Mick with a bent right twig. A few months ago this guy shows up on a MTB with jeans and wants to ride 30 miles with our group. I chuckled and felt bad because his riding buddy didn't bother to tell him about his half flat tire. All that against him but he made it....says something. Today on a road bike he did quite well, I'm twenty pounds heavier but 7 years younger and he stayed with me about 90 percent of the time. If he loses ten pounds, I'll be looking at his rear profile.

Did a real boner today...almost hit a truck moving at 40 mph. Full tuck and about to blow a stop sign. Looked right first, glance left and managed to get my right hand off the aero and on the brake. Stopped less than 3 feet short of his passenger door. Pete rolled up and stated the obvious "that was close" .....new rule riding country....Stop sign = on the hoods and covering both brakes. Might get me to Pete's age and in one piece.

Couldn't post last night, Internet probs again.
Being a checker is easier and pays better, but less opportunity for impromptu exercise. Oh, well.
Last night back in the saddle with my usual twenty min walk and Total Gym workout.
Tonight my two 15 min rides. Got a wild hair to see how fast I could spin the exercise bike, so I made an early 'sprint'. 27.5 MPH for a minute before Jeanne told me to stop before the bike blew up or something. (I was puffing by then, anyway)
Jeanne overdid thing around the house and skipped her rides yesterday and today, citing back pain.

I would puff a 27.5 for a minute also. Keep in motion.

We rode with Greg and Judy tonight on their tandem. We were all pretty tired... but still wanted to get out.. we went a direction that gave us lots of options.. shorter and longer. We ended up with 24-25 miles. We ended up with a 19 ave.

Went out on one bike ride this week and the 40 mph gusts were not for me. I turned around at 7.5 miles just to get back home with the 15 miles. It was a planned 25 - 40 mile ride but the winds were brutal.

I have been getting up early (4:45) to go run before work. So, I have not posted much.

After the day of Wellness - I was given a pedometer to measure how far I walk. After 20,000 steps I get bonus food. Today is the day 20,000! Here I come ribs!

27.5 Would be a lot harder on your bike, it goes up hills and has things like wind resistance to deal with. I just did it out of couriosity and silliness I guess.
Tonight twenty and Total gym, one level of resistance higher, but i may have been premature, as i had to 'cheat' almost half the reps on the second set even wit reduced (15) reps.
Jeanne no exercise
