Howdy from Eugene, OR!

Postby mretuck232 » Wed May 05, 2010 1:10 am

My friends call me Eric or T-Bone, my students call me Mr. E or Mr. T, my wife and her friends just call me a$$. Take yer pick.

A few years ago I came across the old Popular Mechanics mags with the plans and pics for a teardrop. I thought they were pretty cool, never saw a real one in person. I did have a friend who tried to sell me a T@B. Not for me.

Recently a friend passed on a 1988 Coleman Chesapeake pop-up with dry rotted canvas, and a slew of other issues. My initial thought? Utility trailer. Then we went tent camping at the coast last Labor Day here in Oregon where it never rains but much liquid sunshine can be found beaming from above. As I wrung out my belongings at home, I got to looking at that trailer in a new light. Maybe a homemade camper? My wife loves my little projects!! HA!

Anyway, once that idea entered my mind it kind of stuck. It soon stuck on teardrops. I am a bit obsessive once I get on to something, and have read MANY build journals looking for what I might be most interested in. Taught myself Sketchup, irritated my daughter, and annoyed my buddies.

What I'm'a thinkin' is:
-12x5x6 (I want my head and toes crossways so I can make a futon type bed/couch and my wife will want a littler inside stowage)
-A footwell for storage and sittin'.
-A "steampunk" theme (input is welcome).....oh oh oh!!!....or maybe Tennessee Titans theme ... I do have some blue stain =)

The good news is that I am a teacher and have a little time off coming up. The bad news is, I am B-R-O-K-E broke ! Looks like demo and useful item salvage is all I will be able to do for a bit. I'll keep ya posted!

Good luck!

I'm from Hood River and went to school in Corvallis. Know a thing or two about "liquid sunshine."

Teardrop beats canvas by a long shot.

come to the Jefferson State Fathers Day Gathering and see many teardrops to get ideas. The info is in the "destinations" link in the header. You are welcome without a teardrop!

Welcome to the Forum. My daughter went to school in Corvallis and now lives in Eugene. My son went to visit my daughter and moved to Corvallis and now lives in Albany. So, I am familiar with your part of the country. My all-time favorite place is Newport on the coast.
