ABOARD THE CARLSKRONA – A Russian warship hunted down an oil tanker hijacked by Somali pirates and special forces rappelled on board Thursday, surprising the outlaws, who surrendered after a 22-minute gunbattle. Twenty-three Russian sailors were freed.

The dramatic Indian Ocean rescue came a day after pirates seized the tanker, which was heading toward China carrying $50 million worth of crude. One pirate was killed and 10 others were arrested, officials said.

...the Russians said they would take to Russia for trial and then announced they had no laws or authority to do so and released 'em...in an inflatable dingy with no navigation equipment 500mi from shore...and probably a broken paddle :o ;) :applause:

Well, seeing as how keel hauling would have been appropriate, I would say that was a mighty friendly gesture on the part of the Russians......

We have become a nation of wimps who think the fed gov't will save us from ourselves, and are unwilling to take responsibility for our own actions...

How many people do you know who have had accidents (really collisions) and admitted it was their fault.....

My favorite story is of a relative who rear ended a car in front because she was driving too fast and following too closely... her story was she could have avoided it but there was a car next to her and she could not pull into the other lane.

She is scary to ride with.

The latest thing I read on the Russian tanker hijacking is that some are questioning whether or nor they were actually released as stated. Some are suggesting that they should have been released in view of non involved observers. I'd suggest putting the observers in the raft with them. Sorry, but if you want to live like a pirate...die like one. Good job Russians! Doug

I hate PC correctness! When you're lookin' for a rapist, you're lookin' for a man 99.99% of the time. When you're lookin' for a terrorist..well you get the picture. We're wastin' a lot a time friskin' little old ladies and keepin' kids off planes 'cause they got the same name as a terrorist. What a waste of time and money. Whoever said they're not fishin' for fish anyway was right on take their boat and let'm swim home. You're here illegally here, go home and do it right as every other group does. I had a friend with a Russian wife. She was keeping an oil company afloat with her computer skills. You wouldn't believe how many trips she and he had to make to LA for immigration. Her brother couldn't even come over for a visit even with his family left behind because he might choose to stay. What's wrong with this picture. I guess as long as conservatives want to bust unions and have an unlimited supply of cheap labor and liberals want more voters nothing's gunna get done. Too bad I remember when this was the home ofd the brave and the land of the free.

That's why I try to stay out of the mainstream... out there, I feel like I live in the land of the "over-taxed, over-controlled, over-manipulated and trod upon".

Stick 'em in a tube and tow it behind the ship they hijacked for a few hundred miles.
