A Netgear modem/wireless router is compatible with AT&T high speed internet even though AT&T says you gotta go with a 2Wire product.
Only took three days, a wasted evening of Kevin's and several calls to India to get it configured. :?
Just glad to be back up and running.

AT&T Tech Support

Postby eamarquardt » Sat May 08, 2010 5:59 am

Awaze back my email stopped working. Only way to get in and out was to go online to AT&T or Yahoo. Had the tech out several times and the connecdtion was fine. After several days of hashing it out, reloading my computer, etc we finally got to the bottom of it with the help of tier two support (based in San Ramon, Ca.). They had made a change that renderec my version of MS Outlook non functional.

AT&T service is not what it used to be (SBC bought AT&T primarily for the name) as AT&T is really run by SBC folks. The same folks that cheated me out of $70K and routinely cheat their sick and disabled employees.

DSL is DSL. Any quality modem/router should work. The first modem I used (and still have but switched to a 2 wire for wireless) was an Alcatel modem. I got a spare 2 wire at a garage sale for five bucks!

Cheers,

Gus

computers can drive you crazy... at my church I had it set up for wireless. One machine would get intermittent connectivity to the internet. Turned out the signal enhancer, which was supposed to give a stronger signal was creating the problem. once removed, everything worked fine.

It is possibly the modem part that is glitchy.

I use the cable modem recommended by Time Warner, but my wireless router is Apple's AirPort Extreme, which is 803.11n -- the fastest. I have no problems with my set up. If I lose my internet connection, 100-percent of the time my whole neighborhood loses it, so it's not my network.
