Add AC to my trailer

Add AC to my trailer

Postby bushido41 » Fri May 07, 2010 10:45 am

Hello Everyone,

Finally I got my R-Vision Cassette home. This trailer comes wired for DC only and I will like to add AC. I know how to do the task but I have a couple questions about the most efficient way to accomplish the task.

1. DC only and looks like the battery is charged by the 7 pin connector to my truck.
2. I need about 2 outlets bixes for the galley, 2 for the outside, and two for the inside.
3. My AC needs are, microwave, A/C ( I live in Florida), CPAP machine and some small electronics.

My questions are;

1. I will like to ensure the battery is charge, is the truck setup enough?
2. Should I use a converter or just a GFI with and AC braker box for the AC and then a battery tender to charge the bateery?

Thank you
Ed

Speed costs money, how fast do you what to go. Do you what to integrate the AC and DC is there a place/room for a converter/power center i.e. http://www.progressivedyn.com/all_in_one_pd4000.html
Which battery tender do you have and how fast will it recharge your battery?
Our Progressive Dynamics is a 45A and will bring the battery up to 90% in a couple of hours or less and will perform the function of the BT (trickle charge) as well as condition the battery. Concorde/Lifeline battery recommends the use of a three stage charger such as the Progressive Dynamics.

Always have more outlets than you think you need. Lets see, inside power to the inverter, laptop, Maha battery charger, cell phone chargers, camera battery charger, Sirius receiver, AC controller, heater...

Ummm, unless you have an old CPAP machine most can do DC. The newer ones even have there own battery back up. I have been using mine while camping for three years and it has been doing great off either DC or AC.

Since you are needing AC to run that Microwave and Air Conditioning unit, I would wire the entire thing for AC and not mess with a converter since you will be hooked up to shore power. The battery tender can be the slowest that you can find (cheap) since the DC will rarely be used and depending on how far you drive to camp might be enough to charge the battery.

Two good replies. How much DC stuff do you have to power? Do you want to run all the DC off the battery or shore power? If you want to CONVERT to AC, you can get a cheap 12V converter with no charger and get rid of the battery .

Hello Everyone,

Thank you for the feedback, I just purchased a PD4045 45 Amp Inteli-Power Mighty Mini Power Center from Best Converter. THank you Shadow Catcher you convinced me to spend the extra money and get the right tool.

Now I need to figure out where to install the panel, I have a good idea but need to see first.

Cheers,
Ed
