I would like to know about the insurance too. I financed our trailer through our business leasing company. They dont require any insurance on any of our equipment however, I may get it anyways.

Here's a post from November, where I asked the same question. I never did find a company to write it. Allstate said they would if I gave them my trucks too, but I didn't want to do that.

I initially tried using State Farm. They asked me how much to insure the trailer for. It was going to be around $40/year for $4500 coverage. But since I don't have my truck insured with them (only my motorcycles) they couldn't insure it. I guess this is because this type of insurance is stacked. I ended up insuring it where I have my truck insured - Horace Mann and it costs me the same as it would have with State Farm, for the same amount of coverage.

I have my trucks, boats, etc with Progressive, and they wouldn't touch the trailer. As is being said, most companies must have your vehicle(s) too.

We have Erie Insurance. I never told them about any interior modifications I made, just insured it as it was from the factory. Of course my bill of sale includes the windows, electrics and insulation, so the only thing my trailer coverage doesn't include is the bunks, the shelving and cabinets and other contents like the TV panel. My household insurance covers everything I haul so I might get some recovery there if something happens.

I'm not clear on the details, but I'm pretty sure I have to insure my trailer in Maryland. We have our TV and another car my wife uses for commuting, and the trailer is the third line-item on our insurance policy.

Since the trailer is covered for liability when being towed is there any reason
other than not being able to afford to replace the trailer that you would need coverage?
don't get me wrong I carried insurance on my Travel trailer
but it would have cost a lot more to replace than a cargo trailer.

id rather pay the $8 a month for full insurance then possibly pay the $8000 ish to replace my trailer. if youve got a good driving record it so cheap so why not?

the only thing cover by your auto insurance is liability so if you total you trailer in a accident you do not get anything for you trailer. But to replace my cargo to the way it is right now would cost about 6500.00

I agree $8 isn't much for peace of mind.
but it sounded like the OP could not get insurance or his co. had never insured a CC before.
being first sometimes can be costly.
good luck on you insurance quest and may you never find a need for it's use.
