HWY fires

Postby emiller » Sat May 15, 2010 1:58 pm

Just got back from Los Angeles and noticed that there where a lot of black spots on the freeways. There seams to be more auto fires on the freeway and don't know why. Watching the news in L.A. there was a motor-home on fire. Any body else notice that or am I just weird.

My guess is, people don't have the money they use to for regular service work. Instead of fixing the squeek or noise they just wait till it catches fire.

Maybe because it's early in the season and folks haven't got them up to spec yet? "Just a quick weekend trip and then I'll take care of that" type of thinking? Yep, bet finances are often involved.

we had about 10K acres burned near us last summer from some yahoo that had a flat on a tandem utility trailer and just kept on going. I tell ya, some people kids....

Perhaps due to friction. Friction between the note payment and the insurance payoff!

I work on the highway every day and in the last 15 years I have actually been there when four of these fires started.

1. Cigarette butt discarded in dry grass.

2. Dragging safety chain, sparks caught in dry grass.

3. Car pulled over and catalytic converter started brush on fire.

4. Clear glass bottle 1/2 full of water on a bright sunshiny day. Started other litter on fire.

In dry conditions a fire can be real easy to start. All of these occurred when fire conditions were severe or extreme.

This is a reminder to be careful when you're out there. If it can be proven that you were the cause of a damaging fire, you could be held financially or even criminally responsible.
