Exercise Anyone?????????????

Things that don't fit anywhere else...

We have had a lot going on today.. but we managed to get in a nice mountain bike ride.. between an hour and a half.... and two hours..

some of it semi easy.. some of it hammered. I had a nice technical loop that I time trailed 3 times... actually the first time was at a moderate speed.. just riding. when we came out the ride leader suggested I go around again.. while we waited for stragglers.. and I did and even caught one person.

Then we did it again. I had to "sprint" to get to the front.. so I would not be held up going through it. [The loop is very technical.. and there is NO passing on it. ] My pulse was at 166 just getting past everyone... :o

I was able to get it back to about 160.. before entering it.. It was 174 as I finished.. my highest in a while... :D

when we got back the stronger riders were heading back out for more riding.. but I had other places to be.. :(

No workout tonight, I was so trashed from yesterday I came home from work and slept before dinner.
Jeanne 30 min ride.
The last time Jeanne did the Total gym she got positioned wrong and pulled a back muscle. Because of this she had trouble getting back up and almost fell across it, which would have hammered her back terribly.
Friday among other errands we went to Academy and bought a cheap home gym, a Marcy MWM980. I do realize that this is not a great piece of equipment but it's a sit up multi exercise gym, so no worries about falling while we wear it out. (actually, I've had Marcy equipment before, and while I don't recommend it for high end users, it's not terrible)
Hopefully at that point she will be comfortable enough with weight training, we can get a decent bench and use free weights and power bands for our workouts.
I haven't begun to assemble it yet, but it looks like a bit of a project. I'll keep you posted.
As a bonus, I now have a high and low pulley station! (or will when I get it assembled)

2.35 mile run this morning. Now off to move furniture for my oldest daughter and then to graduation parties. Then hopefully more work around our house and maybe a late evening run again before going to sleep.

Have a great workout!!!

Finally learned I have an addiction.

One crewman bailed on a 100 K due to work and I was called to take his place. So a quick spin the night before to check the bike and heard a rotational squeak coming from the rear wheel. Not wanting to torture myself or the crew, I also canceled.

Next morning headed to the LBS. Three riders test rode and found the sound changed depending on weight. They swapped the wheel, no squeak. It's about 11 am and folks started streaming in, thus putting my maladjusted wheel in the do later list.

Wife and kids had a Mothers with Multiples (there is an organization for everything) camp-out and wound up doing family day at my usual 100 mile ride around turn point, watching riders pulling in filling bottles, stretching, and refueling. Wife notice I was sad and knew nothing could be done.

Now I know riding can work itself into crevasses of the brain and must contemplate purchasing a back up road ride.

We have a funeral today.had visiting hours yesterday] for a 21 year old young man killed in Afghanistan ...

I had hope for more miles today.. but got in a 33.4.. at 18.7..

It started out as an easy ride... and as it was my pulse did not go crazy.. but we did have a brutal head wind to grind through on the way back.... It was not bad... just more work than I had planned.

My condolences to the young man's family.
Sunday is my day off, so no workout.
Jeanne one thirty min ride
My big fun today was assembling the Gym before (and after) work.
Four hours to get the structure together before work, two more after to mount pulleys and string cable.

Seems to work all right, I'm looking forward to using it, and helping Jeanne learn the basics of resistance training. I hope she'll come to enjoy it as much as I used to. Hell, I hope I'll enjoy it the way I used to.

Backup road bike is a must. I have one aluminum that I started with, and now purchased a Jamis Aurora that is a steel touring bike. I am hoping to get it ready so I can carry a laptop and my paperwork and my lunch and ride 22 miles to work and then 22 miles again in the afternoon after work.

Oh yeah. 2 mile run this morning before work.

tonight's ride.. Greg and Judy on their tandem.. and Matt on his single. We did 33 miles. There are some flattish places in the middle.. but and some more rolling stuff.. but there are also some semi painful climbs in it.

A few miles into Greg and Judy came up and took some pulls.. some real strong pulls. With them pulling that strong that early.. I thought that perhaps we were going to be in for a FAST ride.... they took a few pulls then stopped.

It does make it hard to know how to pace myself. Am I going to pull the whole way.. or have their help.. and how much? I don't mind either way.. it is just hard to know how hard to go.

You hit the worst hills about 19 miles into it. Unless the wind is real bad.. I can usually pick up our ave. In the last 9 miles.

If your ave. is 18.. it is much easier than if it is in the high 19's. I was able to keep increasing it as we neared the end.. but man did it hurt.

My ave pulse for the ride was 152. the max 169. I did not push the hills as hard as I could.. someone to save myself.. but also I kept dropping the other tandem. So my max is not real high.. but I think that ave.. is right up there for a road ride.

Twenty minute walk and first workout on the new Gym.
I am pleasantly surprised, as the one I assemble is smoother than the floor model was. After that, well, of course it has it's limitations, being a small sit up model, the only way we could do squats or such would be a sort of awkward squat / dead lift hybrid, not good for Jeanne's bad back, and we may have to use dumbbells for the over head press as well as squats.
Jeanne is thinking she may just let the bike be her leg strength developer. Not a bad idea. at least for now.
Jeanne did two fifteen min rides and also worked out on the Gym, had a much easier time than messing with the Total Gym.

2 mile run again this morning. I can't wait for the week to end and my youngest will graduate high school. Then I can start getting in some real workouts.
