No more sagging drawers

Postby Ageless » Sun May 16, 2010 6:41 pm

The backs of the drawers were made from particleboard (a real moisture sponge) and the hardware was kaput.

Notice that 'Idjit' had replaced one with a piece of baseboard trim (compressed cardboard) :x He used 4 different types of screws; different lengths and a few paneling nails. I would have kicked his butt outta my shop for such fugly work!

I ripped pine to 4 1/2", used Titebond, a few wire nails to locate and clamped. Then 2 coats of Waterseal to both old and new wood.

Installed new hardware; slid the drawers in . . . . .no more sagging!! :D
Tomorrow I'll get child-proof latches; then it's fix a few doors.

Good fix Ageless....Steve E tore apart a slide in pop up camper this last spring and it was amazing the amount of particle board that was used...and like yours...it was all swelled up, screws falling out of it and funky black with mold. Wood grained vinyl overlay hides a lot of crap! Doug

Thought maybe you got some good results from working out or something Ageless... although this post is good news, it's still a let down from the pictures I had hoped to see. 8)

Good fix. Those drawers must've been like living a nightmare just to see 'em!

I know your intentions are to keep the trailer camp-able while you are working on it and making the drawers over was a good first step. Keep-a-goin'!

Are you trying out to play the part of some famine victim?

At least your hips stick out enough to hang your drawers on.
