Converting Cargo Trailers into TTTs

Great start there. Just be sure to insulate that trailer or no AC will be enough to keep up.

We've made a little bit of progress!!

Image

Thin factory plywood on the walls had to come down because not only was it torn up in several places, but it's also too thin, it would have become torn up quickly anyways.

Image

Looks like a whole different trailer already!

The back section of plywood was torn up pretty good from previous owners. So we had to pull it up and put a new piece down. Note the color difference. That's how soiled the existing wood is!

Image

Time to do some sanding!

Image

Note the color difference again, after sanding a few patches:

We finished up the sanding today. We got a few parts ordered late last week, also. Main thing being the inner assembly for the a/c. Gonna get that installed as soon as it comes in. We also ordered some electrical stuff (I just smile and nod when David tells me all the electrical stuff), a window, and a door latch so we can get out. hahaha

A friend's father had purchased a ton of peel and stick tile flooring before he passed away. Our friend found it the other day in storage and gave us enough to do our floor for free!!

Tomorrow, David will weld another brace for the a/c (the other one is semi sufficient, but just a little bit of extra measure :) ) and do a few more things. Will post pics as they are done!

We're taking this baby out with a few air mattresses next weekend, so we have to get the a/c running, and flooring in this week! We're excited!

Thanks! Yes, we actually got a sheet of insulation board to put around the a/c today! As soon as we get some brackets welded on the walls for fold down beds, that will be the first step is to insulate the rest of the trailer! We are putting the whiteboard stuff on top of the insulation. Then all the fun stuff can come after that :)

Glad to here that insulation is in the plans!
And once you have the walls covered you can use it as a towable tent while finishing it!

I couldn't figure it out

I believe you can go back to your very first post and click on edit. When that comes up, change your subject line to what you desire. Save your changes and that should be that.

Enjoying watching your progress on the conversion. Thanks for sharing.

I fixed it for you, but yes, what Nathan said... go back to your very first post and then hit the edit button.

Ditto on the insulation.

That's a lot of interior volume.

It looks to be in very good condition inside the walls.

Hey, thanks, Mike!
I used to be the one to tell my parents how to navigate around a computer....now I have to have help. Does that mean I'm getting old?

A little more progress today. Decided to give the a/c a little bit more support inside, because it was looking a little droopy from the outside:

Image

We actually came up with a real master plan last night. Not just thinking of ideas....so we started to get it rolling!
Back of the trailer will be bunk beds. The top bunk will (hopefully) be set on shocks. Got the idea from this guy. The part where he pulls the top bunk down starts at about 3 minutes, 50 seconds:

Pretty cool!! So anyways, we got some brackets welded onto the walls today for that project, whenever we find some shocks.

Image

The bottom bunk will be about 8 inches off of the floor, and will fold up into 3 sections. Kind of hard to explain, so here's a diagram:

Image

There are hinges at the end of each section, and legs at the end (not drawn). It will fold out flat for bed position, it is pictured in couch position, and it can fold up completely for travel.
Dave got the 3 frames built today, we just have to buy some hinges to put it all together, and then cut some plywood to screw to each frame, then I will have to break out the sewing machine and get some removable cushions made :)
I had to get kids in bed, and it got dark, so no pics of the frame till tomorrow :)

Prem, I'm still amazed at the deal we got this trailer for. Granted it wasn't brand new, but it's only a 2006 model, and we got it for $1850. There's some minor exterior damage, but like I said, it's minor. Just a few bumps and dings, and there's hail damage to the top, but it's so darn tall, you can't see it unless you're setting a monster a/c on top :)

I know how you feel about portapotties. I'm going to try the wagbags this weekend.

Reba, enlighten me...what on earth is a wagbag??

 Superb! That's a lot of money not spent that you can spend on fuel going places. It will be a spacious home away from home!

Absolutely!! It's already gotten some mileage, and plan to put some more on in a few weeks :) When we actually get it all done, you probably won't ever find us at home!

more progress!!!

got ALMOST all the insulation up, except the front wall, and then the area for 2nd window. We have 1 window now, but still have to put it in, and will be ordering a 2nd window soon.

Got hinges to get the bottom bunk all hinged together, and got the shocks to get the top bunk going. We were going to get that stuff done tonight, but I think a girlfriend and I are going to take it out for a girls night out on the lake later. (even though it's already dark!)

Got 3 sets of double lights up and wired in. Holy moly...it's like daylight in the dark in there!!

Dave got the electrical box built....this is what he says about it; "it's a 6 space, 12 circuit square D flush mount load center. One 30 amp breaker back fed as main; one 15 amp breaker for GFI; one 20 amp breaker for a/c. Will be landing another 15 amp breaker for converter soon. Load center enclosure houses 40 ft shore line, accessible from outside hatch."
Sooo....while I'm sure all of you know what all that means, I know what it looks like, and how to plug the sucker in. hehe

Here it is:

Here's our nifty lights:

And the window frame:

Beds will hopefully be next!! Time to break out the sewing machine. Gonna check with a trim shop that is owned by the parents of some friends....gonna see what kind of a deal on really thick foam we can get

:D
