Fuse Box - Location ideas?

Postby Classic Finn » Sun May 16, 2010 4:33 pm

Im working on installing the fuse box which we just purchased. Where is the best location for this?

Could you folks show some pics as to where it is located on your tear?

Ive been thinking of installing it inside the tear onto a seperate panel but still have mixed ideas with it. :? Or maybe on the inside cabinet door is one place?

It is a Marine BEP Fuse Box or Panel. With 6 switches and fuses.

Here,s a pic of the Panel

That is so true. This panel isnt all that big though. Width is almost half the size of a CD or DVD cover but about the same height as one. ;) Compact is the word I reckon. :)

You need to give some thought to where or how to get all the wiring run. The panel may be small but all the wires coming and going take up room and are unsightly to look at. I put mine in with the battery close to the floor allowing me to get some wires in and out thru the floor.

So true. The wires will take up more room than you think. I placed my power box (12V and 120V) in the gallery down near the floor and to the side where my power inlet is. Does it take up galley space? Yes, but it was the best place to put it for me.

Mine is in the galley, under the counter and fully accessible. Right behind and above the microwave..

Mine will go on the bulkhead between cabin and gally, just below the electrical raceway.

Don't have a picture handy, but mine is in the upper cabinets in my galley and I put it behind a 1/4" piece of plywood to keep things from comiing in contact with it accidentally when traveling, but I still have access if I need it.

Think about how you will access it when TD is done..... If its late at night (dark) and you are using a flashlight you do not want to be "standing on your head" and trying to reach into a "deep" space behind cabinets to try and determine what the problem may be... Same rules as in a home.... "Make it accessible".... A few extra feet of wire during construction is not a "deal breaker"...

As I'm working on design; battery and 110 breakers will be in the tongue box. 12V fuse box will be mounted on the lid so easy to see in the dark (small lite in the electrical area)

The location of the fuses on MM#1 was inside in the cabinet with the water tank, rather a pain to get to and imposable to see the fuses with out pulling them. All of the major electrical (it is a power center) is in the rear in front of the water heater heater. This simplifies getting to it and all of the terminations of wires are in one location.
