I was going to take today off.. I am tired.. and have a few funerals lately.. and it is pouring out..

but I decided to "play" with my kettle bells. I have not used them in some time.

I went back down to the 35 pounder.. but did my full 10 min. of turkish getup's with it.

Last night's group ride... was different. It is supposed to be an easy night.. but lately it seems it has been some of our faster rides of the week.... although some of that has been my fault...

This week after our fast Monday night.. I had promised Matt I would take it easy. He was going to bring his tandem and they are not that fast on it it... although he did not end up bringing it.

I had been in a Native American ceremony for the soldier that had died...a few hours prior.. and they usually leave me pretty wiped out..

I was surprised I could ride at all...

This tuesday night. a bunch of racer boys showed up.. hoping to draft off the tandem. Not that there is ever really anything in this for me.. I don't get much out of it... I just get used..  I definately wanted no part of it last night.. so I rode real slow.. and they sat back there for a while before they got bored.

In addition to racer boys.. we also had some new..slooow people.

I rode near the back.. but even riding my slow was faster than many.. so when we got to a good stopping area.. I would ride back to the last person.. and then back to the stopping spot again.

It got later in the ride.. and it was quite late.. getting dark.. and cold.. there were others.... officially in the sweep postion.. so I rode on ahead.

The ride was about 30 miles.. one of the new ladies..had never ridden that far in her life.. and did not eat for it.. so she was very bonked.. she was out of it.. shaking.. bad.. they got some food into her.. and after about 15 min. she was able to ride slowly.

hmm part way through the ride..some of the racer boys.. came up behind us.. others had gone another way.. well once again they were looking to draft.. we were in an open area with a headwind .. I got down to about 9 mph before they went around... [one of these guys.. is a bad user. He rarely pulls. he just sits in.. and then if he is capable.. attacks and rides off..or tries to]

We had dropped down along the river.. a flat section with a good sized hill up ahead.. .. they were not that far ahead.. so I decided

I actually passed and dropped them on the hill ... :D [these are the B racers not our A team] but it was still nice to drop them on a climb..

Taking care of the group and dishing out a smack down...maturity & wisdom over youth & exuberance. Well done.

7 days in a row of at least a two mile run. It is time to up the miles each day, but trying to get that in before work will be a problem.

you will just have to run faster also.. so that you can run further than 2 miles.. in the same amount if time you used to run your 2 in... 8)

tonight our regular Greg and Judy on their tandem.. Matt.. and Laurie and I on ours.... from Greg and Judy's place.

Greg said he only had a couple of hours sleep.. so he was not sure, what he felt up to. So we headed out.. at an easy pace. Just a little ways out. Judy decided she wanted to do Bigelow hill. It is a a fairly significant climb for our imediate area. I am not sure of the exact distance.. but around 4 miles.

The hill was a little to early in the ride... we were not properly warmed up for it.

Judy told us to wait for them at the top [we are climbing better than them right now] I think Matt was just staying with them.. but I am not sure.

Judy then picked the rest of our loop.

The downhill ahead of us has really bad pavement, but last year.. we "discovered" a nice side road.. part way down. This has great pavement right now.. and a short steep section.. that just coasting we hit just under 52 mph tonight.. we had enough momentum to top the next hill at 35.. just coasting... :o

Once we become a little more familiar.. it will be a blast to hammer.. :D

The direction we were headed goes into town and has a busy intersection.. with a steep in. It is a pain. Tonight we found some side streets to bypass it..

I have been pretty dehydrated today.. and it started bothering me.. my stomach gets upset.. I ended up vomiting some.. for a mile or two.. while my buddies stayed a comfortable distance ahead.

We stopped for a minute in the next town.

At that point we had a slow 17.2 ave. I [jokingly ] suggested that we could bring the ave up to 20. Of course we had been about 18 miles.. and had only 10 to go.. so we would really have had to fly.

We had a nice 4 to 5 miles of quite flat terrain. We had a nice steady pull along that. Nothing extreme.. ... my pulse was in the mid to upper 150's.. and in the couple of hills towards the end.. into the 160's..

We did pick the ave up to 18.5

Great ride with friends. I wish there were people around me that like to ride 20 to 40 miles at a time.

Got 20 miles in with Franken Bike with two of the crew. A converted mountain with road bars, rino lights and 1.35 Marathons. Fits me well, weighs a TON but she's SMOOTH. Quite different ride than my Roadie. Of course my buddies were ECSTATIC knowing they were gonna kick my ass.

New gadget for riding, A Garmin 310XT with heart monitor. I been playing with various GPS and finally settled on the 310 and it came in handy today. Midway through the ride, with wind at 6, two crew pounced. Got back to them when one stopped to pee. Now I know protocol says you don't take advantage of the situation but they showed no concern about my 40 lb bike and thoroughly enjoyed me pulling them for 5 miles...soooo when asked if I was gonna wait, the reply came back F**K Y*U. Yes they were gonna catch me, but I made them work for it. Got well ahead and being in a new place Had no idea where the turn was. Scrolled to the map feature and zoomed in on the track. Left turn in .5 mile. Cool, gadget just paid for itself. Stayed ahead for 3 miles when one announced on the wheel and complained that he had to average 19 to catch me.

Seeing my heart rate was interesting. At fifteen it was pumping at 128 and and pushing against the wind at 18 its showed 158. Ran out of breath before my legs did. Highest was 183, but that was at the beginning of the ride. Generally stayed between 125 and 148 and managed to pull 21 when the wind was at 6.

Averaged 14.4 and will have my Roadie back for the LBS tomorrow.

Nice ride on a mountain bike.

I have a Garmin Forerunner 305 and use it for all of my runs and rides. Too bad it won't work in the water at the pool to give me an idea of my heartrate, because I hate to stop in the middle of a 2 mile swim to check my heart rate.

I returned the gadget to day.....no matter how hard I tried I could not get it to upload to Garmin connect. If it was standard USB cable instead of wireless, I'd get it.

Threw in a short run (100 meters, not a sprint) into my walk today, and the knees didn't protest too much, so mat start incorporating some running into the workout.
Also did workout on Gym.
Pretty basic workout at this point; chest press, pulldown, shoulder press (with dumbells, can't figure a way to do them with machine) arm curl, pressdowns, split squat (think lunge witout stepping back and forth) and crunches, one set, 12-15 reps. I'll increase as needed / desired.
Jeanne thirty min ride and Gym, as well.
