My dilemma--unexpected extra bag, lid rests

Okay, it's a good dilemma--I am just trying to figure out what to do. The problem is that I had several DO items on my Amazon gift list but forgot they were on there and bought two myself (carry bag and lid rest) and of course didn't remove them from my list. Then I received a belated Mother's Day bonanza from my kids who didn't know I'd ordered anything, which included another bag, TWO lid rests, and a lid lifter. Obviously I will keep the lid lifter. But what about the rest of it?

Maybe I'll keep the bag for now (and carry something else in it). I only have one DO and am not THAT into it that I'd get another anytime soon. The real question is what to do with the two extra lid rests. Would a person with one DO need three lid rests? I do have some iron frying pans from the kitchen that I could take, but I probably would use those on the Coleman rather than over coals.

I can probably figure out a way to send some of it back to Amazon, but just thought I'd see if anyone could tell me other creative uses for lid rests!!

Should you wish to use a frying pan or smooth bottom Dutch oven over coals you can dedicate one lid rest as the support for these pans over hot coals. I have salvaged a couple gas stove grates to do this job. ( they don't make a bad lid rest either) Well they were free on top of a gas stove waiting for the trash guys on heavy pickup day!

How do you make the hot bread to go with the meatloaf.





P.S. another breakthrough the little stainless collander
( or what ever it is in the pic ) worked great. It just fits in
the 12" D.O. By placing 3 balls of aluminum foil under my little
flat bottomed strainer the meat grease was drained away
during cooking. Just put a plate on top and rolled it out then
put a plate on the bottom and righted it up and
it was ready to serve. So my thanks and 99 cents to
who else Goodwill for my little stainless "Whatever"

you can never have too many. I think you should put them back for when you wear it out or get one burned.

Pat - definitely hang onto the extra bag. I use my DO bag all the time when I have to bring a hot casserole or something similar somewhere. I have alot of the round corning ware dishes and the bag works out great for them. Plus it helps keep the dish warm/hot while traveling somewhere with it.

Pat, there will come a time that you will look around and say to yourself, "Why didn't I buy that dutch oven from Amazon when it was on sale. Six just aren't enough for one family". It is easier to just admit that you have been seduced by the dark (seasoned) side. Good luuck and may the farce be with you.

Thanks for the excellent advice! I'm keeping the whole haul! I wanted a casserole carrier anyway--great suggestion!

On my way home from work Friday and a fella was setting up for a yard sale. I have visited his sales before and he always has good boys toys so I stopped. It was a real good thing I was on the motorcycle or I would have been in big trouble. I had to limit myself to one 15" Lodge Skillet and a 10" camp stove lid that had been orphaned from it's pot.
