Wow, It's looking great! Where did you get your window for the door? It looks like the frame is aluminum in color. The only ones I found like that so far have had a black frame.

Hey John,

Thanks! I bought the door windows used, off the 'for sale' section from someone on the T&TTT list. The frames on these windows are made out of plastic. They've been painted silver. They were that way when I got them.

The other windows that I have for the front and the sides have aluminum frames and are crank-out. I bought them from L'il Bear parts, if I remember correctly.

Update 5/29/10

Postby Alfred » Sat May 29, 2010 11:15 pm

Hey Gang,

Nice day today, worked on the camper, we got the better part of the new trailer lights, amber and red marker lights wired up. David from the T&TTT list came over and worked on it with me today.

(I'll post a picture here tomorrow)

Last week, I didn't post, but managed to get the spar polyurethane first coat on the inside walls and ceiling. Inside looks really nice, warm and homey with the polyurethane I used gloss, and it deepened the color and accented the grains of the wood.

Making progress, trying to get it done to go camping this season.

I don't see the rails for your top bunk in there yet. When are you planning on doing that step?

Hey Mike,

We're still planning on doing the rails and the bunk. This is why there are no upper cabinets, and we built in lower storage for the chuckbox. Still debating the best method for how to do the rails for the bunk.

This is an old picture (we've come a long way further on the build now) showing where the rail will go:
Image

This is a picture again of the bunk concept (the top bunk slides forward to allow use of the galley area during the day):

Here's another look at the plans that Mike drew up:

And here we are, looking into the camper, as it looked a few weeks ago:

We still have to do the doors, a lot of finish work. I have to finish the exterior sealing/painting. I'm really hoping to get it done this season, as the family is getting impatient to go camping!

Lights - 8/14/10

Postby Alfred » Sat Aug 14, 2010 9:44 pm

Hey Gang,

We worked on the camper today, the first time I have been able to give it some time in a few weeks. We finished getting the new running lights, tail lights, all wired. The camper is now street-legal!

Didn't get a picture of the lights, but the camper looked nice lit up.

Door hinge 8/21/10

Postby Alfred » Sat Aug 21, 2010 8:55 pm

Hey Gang,

This afternoon we worked on mounting the piano hinge for one of the side doors. We used dowel nuts/bolts in the door frame. Clamps holding the other pieces of the door frame for now, but its going to look nice and work very well, I think!

Here are the bunk rails

Postby Alfred » Sat Sep 04, 2010 7:21 pm

Hey Gang,

We worked on the camper today. We got the inside rails mounted for the bunk bed. The aluminum angle iron is not mounted yet, but here it is mocked-up in place.

Image

Image

Also started putting on the epoxy putty, going to get it ready for painting.

Here it is all lit-up!

Wishing everyone a happy Labor Day weekend!

Sanding Putty

Postby Alfred » Mon Sep 06, 2010 8:26 pm

Hey Gang,

Today, filled more holes with expoxy filler. On Saturday, I bought a new random orbital sander from Lowes and tonight I sanded 'em down. Getting the exterior ready to paint soon.

My sweet Wife says I am a "dork", when I ask her take these pictures of me and my new sander, so I can post them, But, she takes them anyway!

Hi, Alfred:

I don't know how I missed your latest update, but, I did! I was just looking at your build thread and hoping to send you some words of encouragement because I thought you had stopped working on your trailer. However, it seems no encouragement is needed. You're still working on it! :applause: It was exciting to see the rails setting there and I'm looking forward to seeing your next update.

Also, I hope you just took off your mask and goggles for the picture. That epoxy sand can get in your eyes and lungs and cause all kinds of problems. If you are using Doc Rot's Fill-it, it has fiberglass particles in it, which makes it stronger than the regular fill products but the fiberglass sanded particles also make it more dangerous to your health.

Regards from your older-sister-like-friend

PS. I like your new avatar.

Hi Sharon,

Great to hear from you! Thanks for stopping by to check-out the progress. There were a few weeks here and there over the Summer where I didn't get a lot done on it. I find my progress tends to come in waves. I've been working on it a lot in recent weeks, would still like to get it out for one trip before Winter. Kids are restless to get it done and go camping already!

Mask? Goggles? LOL! You're right about needing to wear them - That powder from the putty is gets into everything.

My Brother-in-Law took the new Avatar photo - It is actually cropped from a larger photo, looks decent I think, given that he did not have much to work with in the source material!

Check back - I'll be painting the exterior soon - Hopefully this weekend (wanted to do it last weekend).

Enjoyed your recent update on your build thread, too. Your camper is looking great! Regards back at-ya' from your TD Bro in the Blue Ridge Mtns.
