Introducing....the Waffle Dog !!!

So we are up camping...temps are in the upper 30's sitting around the campfire and the conversation turns to....."what if we were able to make some sort of a waffle, and have a fair amount of meat in it....Not just a breakfast waffle" After some experimentation and some time whittling down a couple of sticks for it....here it is...the Waffle Dog!

Cornbread coating...and not greasy like the county/state fair pronto pups! I picked the end off so you could see the dog in it, my first, the others got better....really tasty, does take some playing around with the batter viscosity...but a lot of fun and a big hit! Next time...doctor up the batter with extras....The waffle dimples hold the condiments! Waffles...they're not just for breakfast anymore!

Soooooooooooo, any chance of getting a picture of this mysterious cooking utensil.

I hate to break it to you folks, but the waffle dog was invented in Hawaii in the 1930s by a place called KC Drive-In. I saw a segment on FoodTV about them.

You can buy waffle dog bakers, but they are for carnival vendors and such, as they are really pricey.

But Doug, I'm sure yours are better.

Wow, two of my favorite foods

Imagine this made with a pork sausage.

The KC Waffle dog looks like it's made in a "pie iron" but there is no "waffle pattern" like Doug's.

Probably less calories than a regular corn dog since it's not deep fried....certainly less than one of Deans pizza slices. Doug

Rich's had removable handles and was in a smaller box. The handles fit into the dog openings for storage. No official date on the literature, but I'm thinking it was in code and it was 1965, seems to fit for the graphics on the box and the instructions. This one was a virgin! Doug

Now look what we have done Doug! Now the price of waffle doggers on eBay will skyrocket, and we can say "sure glad I got mine back when prices were cheap". My waffle dogger was unused when I got it, but I quickly remedied that problem. No sense in having it if you can't use it.
