If 30 mile high speed bike rides at 53 is OK fitness, Me and the wife are pretty pathetic.
 43 and 50 resspectively, and couldn't touch that.
I told Jeanne she had three years yet to reach your ditness level if she wants to be 'that fit at that age'.
She said," NOT!"

Oh, BTW, I noticed you referenced a motorcycle in an earlier post.
Something besides knees we have in common.

The fitness stuff is all relative I guess..

Tell Jeanne we will give her a couple extra years.. so 5 years.. :D

After a many year absence we have been back on a motorycle.. hmm it has been about 10 again already.

tonight we did a group mountain bike ride. It was great

We rode at an area 20 or so miles south of here. We had ridden there some before, but a lot of new single track had been added. The old stuff is OLD road.. rough and rocky dirt road..some logging roads..some to the old quarries.

We had 17 people... many I did not know. I had planned to just lay low and just ride... We took off and I ended up near the front.... following one guy.. with another not far behind me. We were staggered... riding and talking. We were gradually climbing.. and the others talking became more and more labored. Then they started downshifting. I decided to just keep riding. I did not attack..my pulse did climb some.. but I kept it comfortable..I just rode away... and I soon was out of sight.

I would ride to where I was no longer sure of where to go [which was quite some distance].. and then turn back to the last person.. and back up through the group.

I felt pretty good tonight.. my handling and fitness felt pretty good. :D

There is one guy that showed up late..he is a nice enough guy.. but he seems to be upset I am faster than him...[all the others were cool about it] This guy has questioned my age.. thinking I am younger.. and I am a couple of years older [although just a couple] then He figures I am riding better than him.. because I am on a 29er.. which in some places helps.. but I have also been mountain biking 27+ years

There was another guy that seemed upset that Laurie kept passing him.. some don't like women being better than them.

He was not angry or anything.. but it bothered him.. and he would work to try to stay ahead.. and then fail.

I told her after he would be really pissed if he knew how old she was. she is 51.. and he was talking about his upcoming High School class reunion.. his 10th... so he is likely still in his 20's...

She could be his mother..

Ahh, the two inch crowd.
My wife can out shoot me with a pistol or revolver. She can absolutely smoke me with a rifle.
This makes me happy because if ever I have to brace an intruder in the night, she will back me up. (I take point because I move quieter and I'm meaner, plus I have exceptional night vision)
She's stronger than me at some of our weight training exercises, too.

Tonight resistance for both of us plus she rode for thirty minutes.

Tonight two twelve minute rides split by my thirty minute walk with short run.
Jeanne two fifteen minute rides.

One of the best relationships I had as a young man was a gal who shared my love of martial arts, and who could take me thre out of four rounds sparring.
She said one of her favorite thing about me was I didn't get all grouchy about it. (or, as she put it, I didn't put on a rag over it)

my LBS ROCKS

Postby mk10108 » Fri Jun 04, 2010 10:05 am

Just a note. Had a rotational click felt through the drive side crank. Took to the LBS to check the bottom bracket. All was well the BB was fine, but the left side was loose. Re torqued and test rode. The crank was fixed but he squeaky rear wheel was back. The manager test rode and confided with the mechanic then replaced the wheel. Zero noise and they tuned the Brooks seat to eliminate a minor noise......no charge.

This is too much. Put 10 bucks in the beer fund and gave a 20 dollars starbucks card to the mechanic. They will always be my shop.

I have done a lot of biking in my life.. some of the best ever, has been riding in the winter on frozen snowmobile trails. When the conditions are good, it is incredible. :D

in the 10 days or so between HS graduation, and arrival at Paris Island, I was at the beach with some friends and a female cousin [my age]. I was chasing her, with the thought of throwing her in the water. The next thing I knew.. I was flat on my back. She stopped, grabbed, and through me over her shoulder.

It was all so fast, I had no idea what had "hit" me.

hmm I am not sure if I say I did not do a work out today or not.

We have had Laurie's mom's place for sale, and it has sold... but there have been delays. We found out late yesterday, that the sale was moving forward, and our previous closing date was being used. We need to be "out" in about a week and a half. We have been storing our firewood over there. So I have been hauling firewood all day.

soooo no workout.. but plenty of work.

I'd call hauling firewood a workout, and a very functional one at that.
resistance tonight, with some loads adjusted down because of adding a second set.
Jeanne didn't have to drop weight on her exercises, and is now beating me in triceps press down (same weight more reps) and matching in the dumbbell shoulder press.
pretty soon, she'll be stronger than me. (I still smoke her on lat pull downs, though, and beat her on all 'core' exercises (chest press, pull down, crunches, squats.)
she also did a thirty minute ride
