Give me your thoughts

I didn't know if this should be here or the non-traditional forum but here goes. I am thinking of building a "very" basic teardrop shaped trailer. I would have no galley but would have some inside shelves. I plan on only having one door because most of the time I will be alone. I will use uninsulated walls 19/32" thick and an insulated floor and ceiling. This will be on a utility trailer so the teardrop will be removable. The exterior will be painted and I believe that I can build this for $300.00 or less not counting the trailer. Does this sound doable or should I just stick to my hammocks and tents. Thanks.

I see no reason it would not be "doable". Personally, I think your plan to insulate the floor is overkill, as a matress is pretty good insulation. Mine is insulated in the roof only and I'm more than happy with it that way, but I don't live in cold county.

Go ahead and do it. This is a friendly place, you will have a lot of help along the way. What you propose is something similar to Steve Wolverton's Cowper. A basic teardrop trailer with no hatch or galley, just a place to sleep. Galley was outside chuck box.

His is a galley-less off roader, but he's got some good ideas and looks to do nice work...

I"m gonna build a '' Weekender'' per Mikes design. I always try to do a budget when I do a project. So mines gonna run close to 1k give or take. The body wood will run $300-$400. So the time you paint and trim, add a few dollars. Have fun!!

Wow don't I feel cheap!! Trailer and all materials 955.87. Harbor freight 1475 trailer all wood contruction with painted top. Home made cabinets, nothing special but it works. 4x4x10.

REH,,, Alan G. on this forum is an excellent scrounger and put a respectable little 4x8er together for just under 300.00,, now granted it didnt have all the bells and whissles but looked good, towed well, was more than funtional,,,, give him a P.M. and I am sure he will share his experience,,,

It is possible but you had better be one heck of a scrounger and real inventive on where ya get materials,,, the barter system comes in real handy also,,,

I thought of Alan this past weekend. We just had a special election for a new mayor. I should have gone around town and cut down all those wooden election signs (no longer needed) and saved them for his next teardrop.
