American White Pelican's and Double Crested Cormorants. We have a Lake here in Nevada (yes Nevada) called Pyramid which has the largest breeding colony of while pelicans in the West. We were out there a few weeks ago. 12,000 pelicans. And they are all gone (migrate to far parts) by September, and come back every summer to make more pelicans. Did you know pelicans both share child care? one parent sits on the eggs or broods for 12 hours while the other is off feeding, then they switch. Often all at the same time. Quite a sight to see 4,000-6000 pelicans taking off and in the air at the same time! yup, that is me, birder with more info than you really wanted to hear.
