The first car I was permitted to drive was like a 79 or 80 Cadilac Sevile, the ugly model year where the trunk was basically cut off. It was ran on diesel. It was horrible.

I migrated to my "hot rod" a few months later. Any one know what a Bricklin is? I had a 74, AMC 360 4 barrel, 4 speed. That car was fun. I put it in a ditch at 60 or so in a bad storm in 88. I still have its sister on blocks in the backyard, a 75 Bricklin, but it has a 351 2 barrel, FMX, and I am basically tired of them

Now my "toy" is my XJ-SC... but its been on jackstands waiting for me to yank the Turbo400 slushbox and drop in a TKO.... I have collected most of the necessary pieces. Having a kid has an amazing impact on everything I think I am going to do.

My first car was a 1968 buick Wildcat with a 430 V-8 and a quadrajet carb..bought it for 50 bucks from a body shop guy..the trunk was completely rotted out from salt, and the rear bumper was held on with bailing wire..the rest of the car wasn't much better..i used a cambell soup can to wrap around where the manifold met the exaust pipe..or should have met it..it was rotted out..that 430 ran like a stripped assed ape..sounded good too..whoneeds glasspacks..drove it for a few weeks till the driveshaft came apart in the middle..luckily it was in front of the universal, or i woulda did a flying assleap when the shaft dug into the highway at 75 miles an hour..park it for a year till one day a guy knocked on the door looking for a motor for his momma's electra 225..i sold him the whole car for 200 bucks..oh yeah..the old man had stole the battery for his heap..the car hadn't run in the year since i parked it..i used jumper cables to the battery wires and it fired right up..damn.

Just for that, I will go out and snap a pic of the one on blocks in the back yard... its not much to look at right now. Kind of like a fiberglass squared off 260Z with gull wing doors, for those who don't know.

I see Malcolm Bricklin is back. Besides the Bricklin sports car, he was responsible for bringing the Yugo to the US. Now he is planning to import a car from a Chinese company named Chery motors. Ironically, his firm is, and has been, named Visionary Vehicles. hmmmm....

When I was 15, I bought a 58 chevy Impala, 2 dr hardtop, $400. Took my drivers test in it at 16, practiced in the pasture, going to get the irrigation water at 3 am. Why so cheep? Passenger door was caved in, but still worked, window was rolled up, took the door panel off and gave the inside a kick and the door popped back out, just a small dent in the side trim remained. It had a 348 that had been hot rodded with a 4bbl, put a set of recaps on it, would do 100mph on the backroads of Idaho between Boise wherever, I drove it for 4 years and traded it off for $800. Laredo, on a sad note :( yes he did however the motor sucked so we built a nice sm. blk. for it and I keep it for about 1yr then traded it for a CJ-5 Jeep. The guy that bought it worked with him a brought pics. in while he done a full body off resto. Then he got a divorce and now it's gone forever.

Ok Doug, I got one for ya. The 1st car that I had that looked fast was a 82 Firebird  , Blue Metallic Paint  , Rally Rims  , Fat tiers  , Low to the ground  , one cool ride 8) . It was powered by a little 2.5L 4 banger :? and an automatic  . Stay out of my way on a hill  , if it slowed down it would take forever to get it back up to speed. I had that car stolen two times :x , the last time it had over 300,000 miles on it. I let the insurance co. keep it. Went out and got Berta with a 3.1 V6 much faster and no flash  . Regards Dan

Let's see if I can remember. That was a long time ago and I had so many, I've been looking for pictures but can't find any right now. I can't locate a couple of albums. If I'm not mistaken, my first car was a '53 Plymouth, then a '53 MG. After that I had a '56 F100 (for about 6 months), got married and sold the truck and got a '60 Falcon. I lowered the Plymouth 3" in front and added a glasspack and surfboard racks on top. Lets see, that was in 57. Paid $300 for it and then sold it for $600 in 58 and got the MG (for $700). Kept that car pretty stock. Then came the '56 F100. Picked it up for $200 with no engine. Built up a 312 for it, lowered the front 3" and the rear 2". Replaced the 16" wheels with 15" and removed the front bumper. I wanted to paint it black with blue flames but didn't have the $100 it was going to cost. I've done the same thing to the '56 I have today except it's black and has the blue flames (only cost me $3000 to have it that way)WOW :? I won't even get into my race cars. Mostly VW's of some sort.

Have a good day.

More to come later, maybe.

Well...here is my third car....I started the thread with my 2nd....I'm halfway down the Alcan highway 1973 going to Colo...for college....1969 1/2 Maverick...first one in the state of Alaska....200cu in...3 on the tree...note the conveyor belt mud flaps...had one in front of the gas tank too....rock screen on the front....everything I owned in the world was in that car...at that time the Alcan included 1600 miles of gravel, also note the "Keep on truckin" graphic on the wooden roof rack....skis were a lot longer then too....Dad was mad that I put on a set of slot mags and fat tires...I sold the car in 1976 to a grad student at the Univ of Colo....it got shipped to Peru....PS Gage....looking forward to some photos!!!!...Doug
