Boatbuilders dilemma and TTT walls:

The left wall on my Skyline TTT was completely rotted away. Rather than trying to repair the mess in situ I simply stripped the skin, took the requisite measurements and retreated to the shop.

OK, 60" tall by 96" long, ribs at 24" intervals interrupted by the window opening...no problem...off we go!

Got the frame 80% completed when it occurred to me I had never had anything bigger than a 4 x 8 sheet of plywood up the basement stairs...

1 x 2 framing bends remarkably well...and squeaked up the stairs with NO room to spare. The rest of the framing was completed in the back garden... after lighting a candle to whatever saint watches over fools, old men and TTT rebuilders.

Just a word to the wise and a bit of a tale told on myself...make sure you can get the finished item OUT of the workspace even though you can get the materials in!

I suspect that there are completed teardrop trailers sitting in basements, with no possible means to escape. I can visualize the galley hatchs propped open, the bar stools pulled up close, cold beverages being consumed and homage being paid to the basement camping gods.

I found that building the trailer in the basement was no problem. Getting the car in the basement to tow the thing was the tricky part.

The pole in the middle is really slowing the progress also.

A mate built a 30' steel hulled boat in his back yard. Luckily, the vacant block of land next door gave him access to have trucks deliver all his steel and other bits. Over a period of 3 years all went well until McDonalds moved in, naturally, to the vacant block.
This didn't phase my mate until he realised that the block was being filled and ended up 4' higher than his back yard and no way out for the boat.
It was eventually craned out over the house with one of the cranes in McDonalds' car park, and had to be at a time that suited McDonalds.
And of course, the whole thing made the local news. Poor bugger...it really blew his budget.

Basements are easy...get a shovel, dig a ramp, and put in a BIG egress window!

Gibbs actually has a garage basement.... like a walkout basement....
they have showed the back side of the garage 1-2 times.

there was a guy that hand built a Lambrogini in his basement, had to dig it out...
