Did you have any brushes with fame?

Things that don't fit anywhere else...

Had to take away the cable box from one of the Sigfreid and Roy guys, not sure which one he was, they had a fight and one moved out and cancelled his cable, the one that stayed (top floor of Ceasars) called the other one a bitch, no tip.

Spent 3 hours in Jerry Lewis' house, installed new cable boxes in every room, he had 20 or so tvs, all on all the time even in the bathroom, really nice guy.. on the wall in his study was a framed telegram that had been crumpled, then smoothed from a big recording company telling him that " they could not use his recording of 'What Kind of Fool Am I', because they didn't think it would sell" and below it was a Gold Record for the same song from a different company, when he saw me looking at it he laughed and said , " see you should never give up on your dreams" Tipped me $25.

Later I drove Limo, took Martina Mcbride to Airport, after she had been paid $1,000,000. to perform for New Years, and she and whole family had stayed for free in hotel, never said a word, tipped $5. Her dad was nice guy, help me with the luggage.

Paint Your Wagon is one of my favorite movies,

We were living in La Grande when they filmed that movie in North Powder, my dad and I delivered the lumber to build some of the town, they went to every old mill for miles around and bought up all the old junk and cull lumber to build with, mill owners thought they were crazy to buy it, but laughed all the way to the bank.

Wife says I have to say that she just had lunch with Sue Struthers last Saturday, Sally's sister, they grew up on the same block and used to tease Sally all the time because she was the little sister. Does this count?

A number of years ago we got the contract to build a pool guest house for Mugsey Bogues of the Charlotte Hornets,,, Mugsey was a super nice guy that liked to come out and talk and watch what we were doing,,, He tried to help us unload some lumber one afternoon,, my partner asked Mugsey to please do not help,, he really didnt want to have a law suit from the Hornets if Mugsey got hurt,,, At the time I think he was under a 7 million contract ,, talk about a high dollar "hey boy",, Mugsey just laughed and put the board down,,

When I was young I was at Shawnee Country club I had to use the rest room. While I was standing doing my thing! A big fat guy came in and stood in the urinal next to me I looked up at him and I said to him Hay aren't you Jackie Gleason  And he says No kid I just look like him. He was not very nice at all. I asked a guy in the golf shop if it was him and he said yes,and that he wasn't a very nice person!!

I also met and got to ride in a gulf cart with Arnold Palmer

That's a strange one, Cabela:

Gleason had lived right near me in Florida (Inverarry, west Ft. Lauderdale), and although he died before I moved here, I've met a lot of guys who used to party with him, and everyone liked him.

But I believe you and you're probably right. Basically, these were all bar buddies, and when a bunch of guys are all getting sauced together, I guess it's a totally different thing.
Here we go again!

brush with fame.

Postby tearbum67 » Mon Sep 17, 2007 8:00 am

I see its been a few years sense the last post on this subject but..... As some one who has had a Brush with Fame as alot of us have had, I just love talking about it. I know there has to be more but the most memerable would be 3rd. Grandpa Jones at a music concert when I was a kid. 2nd The guy who played Luke Skywalker in starwars. Mark Hammel?? Say him outside of Radio city music hall NYC. on a high school class trip in the 80's. And my all time favorite is Bronson Pinchot. or Belki from ferfect strangers or Surge from Beverlyhills Cop. I accualy did quite a bit of heating and a/c work on his property in Pa. I had to cater to him alot-you know Hollywood- Very very nice guy. But ecentric beyond words. Funny yhing is I always wanted to meet him and get a special autograph. And I did. It says : To Jeff, Im anphibious, believe it or not . Bronson Pinchot. Im Anphibious was a line from Perfect Strangers that I always loved.
If it dont fit, Force it!
