Lanterns, stoves, etc... anything old!

Len, it is possible a 76 might be a Gold Bond. Like everybody said buyer beware. People at E-pray like to fake these. I wouldn'y buy it until I get a good look at it in person.

Oh believe me I won't.

My Dad taught me an old saying years ago and I think it pertains to buying things too.

If you don't know what your talking about, the best thing to do is keep quiet. Len Daddona Sr. 1959

All right he said "shut up".

I have sent a message to a collector friend that has a large collection of Gold Bond stuff including the original catalogs. Hopefully he can confirm the date on Len's stove is valid.

OK, here is what I found on the Gold Bond's. http://oldtownyucca.websitetoolbox.com/ Did a search on Gold Bond and found out. The lanterns were made 71-74.
The 200A were made 1 month in 71, 72 & 73
The 228F were made 2 months in 72
The 228H were made 2 months in 73 & 1 month in 74
No mention of the stoves. No wonder these things are so rare. I also didn't realize that there were three different models. Can't wait to see what Jeremy digs up.

Ok, I got a message back. He is not sure on the stove production dates. He mostly has been documenting the lanterns. He thinks it is likely a good date though.

I just found a picture of the stove.

The color is a little off in the photo but next to a Gold lantern I have it is the right color.

I don't really have my hopes up to high...Its to clean.

But as I said earlier "If the guy at the Yard Sale was trying to scam anybody he didn't do a very good job of it selling it for $15."

Len, base on what I see in the picture, that stove has been repainted. The hinges, handle and latch should not be painted. It also looks to be the wrong yellow but that may just be the picture. That being said, it still is a nice stove.

Here is an example:

Oh I definitely think it has been repainted. But the paint goes clear through with no green.

That's what started me wondering.

I've really checked that "whats underneath thing"out.

And if it was acid washed.....well, it was a $15 Yard Sale thing.

I just couldn't see anybody going through all that to fake it and then give it away.

The only thing that makes sense would be if it is a real one and they repainted it at some point to look good for themselves.

As I said, its not going anywhere.

Sorry to re-open an old thread, but I saw a green 413G at the local Goodwill for $9.99 today. It still has 1/2 a tank of gas!

It needs some TLC, and the pump mechanism no longer pumps (it moves, just doesn't build any pressure).

Is it worth the $9.99?
God Bless

it is if you want one! new stoves and lanterns are high buck. the old 413 is a great stove and big enough to cook on. the 425s are smallish..
Ive seen them here in the 10 to 20 dollar range.. so its in the ballpark unless its trashed..

I'm with you on that Paul.

I have 4, 413's. I use 3 of them in rotation.

I've been taking my son's Soccer team up to our .very Rustic Mountain Camp on a beautiful Pocono Lake for the past 6-7 years and I need 2 big stoves for all the cooking.

Mostly for our traditional 10PM Fish & Chips Snack on Saturday night.

We fillet all the fish they've caught for 2 days and fry them up as a last hurrah for the long weekend.

And now that there all about 21 Years Old there getting pretty good at catching fish.

I have to cut them off at about 20 lbs. of Fillet's (the rest I take home and keep, Ya got to Pay the Cook)

I use 4 Wagner #8 Chicken Fryers, 2 for the fish and 2 for the chips.

And a 413 is the only stove I can do it on.

Now that these Boys/Men are all over 21....Man Can they Drink.

But I get a lot of help now...everything changes.

Happy Trails

The 413's are real cookers and can handle a larger pan! I've got the original family one, unrestored. I've gotten into the 425's just for the smaller to pack thing. I make up an aluminum lift out heat shield that fits inside the box to protect the right hand burner against the box side. A large pan will throw out a lot of heat on the sides and that's how they all get scorched. I cooked a mint 62 425, straightest stove I've ever found by doing fried chicken on it in a large skillet....managed to get a custom rattle can matched up and you can't tell it's a repaint on the right side....Doug
