How wide for a queen bed?

I want to put a queen bed in my tear and I know this sounds a little ADD. But if a queen bed is 60" wide. Do most people build the frame of the trailer 5' wide or should I go and 1" or 2" wider, to give me a little room for sheets, blankets etc?
What have you done?

No need for the extra space. A queen in 60in wide, just make the trailer 60 and it will squish.

Or... get a spa bed from Walmart (miracle foam) and it will squeeze into place or you can cut it with an electric knife.

I've found that the exact size of the mattress helps to keep the sheets/blankets all in place...I hate it when the end tears loose and my feet stick out. A gap...will also allow things to fall down there and you'll have to go digging for them. Doug

...once the body gets over 60" wide, you will have problems finding materials for the roof with out major wastage...get a foam mattress and cut to fit if needed...as Doug sez, this will keep the sheets in place and keep from losing things...............

This is what I did.

My tear is 60" wide and with the walls being about 1 1/4" each my interior space was about 57 1/2". I bought a foam mattress from IKEA and cut about 3" off one side. It fits perfect and with the sheets and blanket tucked in it's all nice and snug.

Looks like I'm the odd one out on this one, but I want 62" inside width so that the bed spread would tuck in nicely on either side.

I was thinking about making the frame 61" wide with the plywood walls on the outside of the frame so I would get 61" on the inside.
With 3/4" ply walls that will make the outside dimensions around 62 1/2" on the outside. What size does the aluminum skin come in? If it is 60" wide I might have to rethink this and maybe make the outside 60" and the inside 58 1/2" and cut up the foam bed.

I designed mine around a queen size bed with 1" on each side for sheets and covers. I messed up my interior length and had to use my Full Size mattress that I happened to have instead which worked out nice. If I were to do it again I would have built it 5 foot wide (not 62 1/2") and just used a full size mattress to begin with. The full size is what I have been sleeping on forever in my house and in the Teardrop the loss is just a couple inches and I don't even notice it whatsoever, plus the cost savings is there.

I LOVE having lots of extra space on the sides too for the covers to lay over and bunch up, (Do your covers stop at the side of the bed? My sheet and comforter keep going another foot! My Iron Maiden top cover is the only one that stops at the edge of the bed. I don't tuck in my comforter and top sheet, what a hassle trying to get in it at night, I let it hang over just like at home). When travelling I put my hammock and folding chair on one side and I have two big CD books, one with movies and one with music that I put on the other side, not to mention a flash light and assorted other things that just end up there and not get in your way.

I built mine for use of a standard Queen mattress. It measures 60" on the inside. Outside measure 64.5".

Funny! The first thing I do is yank the covers out so my feet can stick out if I get hot and so I don’t feel squished and trapped! It’s funny that everybody’s a little different! (and some of us more than others…:lol:
