Then wait no longer. When I was working out the kitchen area I really struggled with the layout. I wanted a fully functional kitchen inside. You can always cook outside if you want to. However, sometimes it really sucks to cook outside sometimes. When the weather gets really poor I want to be able to cook inside.

Image

The stove, sink, water tank, furnace, and power unit were all aquired from Ebay. I am mostly happy with the layout. Still have to get the range hood up. Everything is going to be trimmed in walnut.

Image

I decided on a hickory plywood for the counter. It was some that I already had so no extra cost. I ran the pipe for the gas supply and plumbed the pump for the water tank.

For power I am using the Intelli Power 4000. I have not heard too much about this unit but it does seem like a nice compact solution if it works properly.

I've thought about building the roof similar to this... but adding the cleats is a real ingenious solution that I hadn't thought of. Very good idea.

And very nice build you've got going there.

Mike...

Well thank you. I don't believe I have too many original ideas. Most of the cool things I come up with someone else already thought of.

Funny you should say that. I nearly did. In July 2002 I had just given my S10 pickup an oil change. After I was done I took it for a short drive down to the end of the road I live on. I only made it about a half mile from my house and a guy driving another truck was in a hurry and blew off stop sign on a gravel road that was perpendicular to the road I was on. I saw him coming but by the time I realized he wasn't going to stop there was not much I could do. I stood on the brake and pulled hard for the ditch. However it was not enough. He hit me at full speed in the driver's side door. I am still not sure how I survived. I had broken both my legs badly, several ribs, and my cordless drill that was in my pickup got me in the head.

Image

They managed to put me all back together. One leg is about 1/4" longer than the other and I have all manner of metal parts. When it was all said and done I ended up with a little insurance money. I decided to dedicate that money to a workshop where I can build things and enjoy my time on this planet. You never know when that time might come to an end. Spend your time wisely.

I am thinking I am ready to call the counter done. I have given it 6 coats of finish. I added a small box to the top with a 110v outlet, a 12v outlet, and a switch for the water pump. I am trimming everything out in walnut and I am pleased with the look.

Wow! It's amazing what a person can live through! I'm thankful you made it and are here to tell about it.

Just curious, what about the other guy?
God Bless

He had a little bump on his head but other than that no physical injuries. Although I understand that mentally he was in pretty rough shape knowing what he had caused. He was cited for "failure to yield" but nothing else.

Now whenever I end up damaged I get to say I have had worse.

RE: I am building something

Postby mezmo » Thu Jun 17, 2010 10:41 pm

Hey NorthernMN,

'Had to chime in here to say you're doing a great build! I'm
enjoying watching along.

You're a great intuitive designer and craftsman - as this
build shows. That inspired spar and interior roof/ends paneling
installation method is just additional proof of that.

I had to chuckle at a couple of your earlier comments about
having to finish things off where no one can possibly see them.
You must be of Germanic or Scandinavian descent to have
the need to do that ! I'm of Germanic descent, and growing up
it was instilled in us to always: 'Do it the right way or don't do
it at all. - Period. ! It Is Not Optional ! It doesn't matter if no one else
can't see it. - God Can See It ! ! !' Sound familiar? Ha ! (And its
impossible to shake that need once it is instilled!)

Wow, surviving that accident is an accomplishment in itself !
'Glad to see you've made a great recovery and can enjoy the
creativity that accompanies designing and building something
by yourself.

Your TTT is an inspiration for us fellow forum members.

Looks great, love the wood!

I am using using the Intellipower 4000 series. Haven't gotten to the point of wiring up yet, but it looks decent. The only thing I'm not thrilled with is the flying leads on the 12V side, I would have preferred screw terminals. Still, has a well regarding charging section and the price is very reasonable.

Keep the pics coming!

Time to catch up. I am in the middle of doing all the wiring right now. I have a majority of the interior work done. The potty room is basically done. I decided to add a small window to it.

Image
Image

I didn't really do anything special but it should serve the purpose anyway. It is about 28" X 28" but it feels bigger becuase the front wall curves out giving additional space.

I did a small corner entertainment center.

Image

I am using a Dual XDVD9101 single din DVD player with 7" retractable screen. USB port in the front and inputs/outputs for just about anything. The space below the stereo is large enough for my 10" netbook so I can hook that up too. I don't think I got too carried away but I know some people frown on having entertainment while camping. I like having the option and when I spend 2 weeks in the fall in the Badlands mule deer hunting there is quite a few dark hours with little to do.

I finished the space for the fridge and I added a pull out counter space. Since there is not much open counter space I thought it was a wise idea and the wife agreed.

Image

For the fridge I am using an Edgestar FP630. I had ordered it weeks ago and it show up beat to crap by Fedex. The box was half destroyed. The Fedex guy was a complete jerk about it too. The box was marked "Handle with care" and "This side up". He delivered it on the sidewalk and tipped over. When I asked him about it his only answer was that the box was already beat up so it didn't really matter. I finally got the replacement and a new Fedex guy last week.

Moving to the outside

Postby NorthernMN » Mon Jun 28, 2010 11:20 pm

Since I have a majority of the interior done and I have finished the wiring I decided to start working on the outside.

Image

I put the pink on and installed the door temporarily. I am hoping to have the insulation done before the weekend so I can skin it over the weekend.
