On my strip built kayaks, I print on shoe box tissue paper with an injet printer, but I have heard laser jet printers ink lasts longer. You don't have to bury it under epoxy or glass. It works well just under varnish. If it fades or you get tired of it, just sand it off. If it's under epoxy/glass it will be difficult to remove.
Colors fade the quickest, especially reds (they turn pink). If you can keep it covered from direct sunlight, it will last longer.
It's a fun project. Practice on some scraps before committing to your build.
You may want to consider putting it on the interior of your Tear. It will certainly last longer.
Here's a sample picture taken under harsh sunlight and shadows. This example is just under varnish. As you can see the tissue paper becomes completely clear under 6 coats of varnish.
