need to have some kind of lock

Anything to do with mechanical, construction etc

need to have some kind of lock

Postby timlsalem » Fri Jun 18, 2010 12:59 pm

Does anyone know where I can start looking for a lock for my hatch? I looked at Planovet's lock and that's a good one but I can't use it because I have no where to mount it. The one I need has to be a 90 degree. (look at photo). I tried to make one but after bending it I found out it wouldn't work. I've sure wasted a lot of $ on this thing.
Still having a problem with the inside molding. I've bought $40. worth and wasted $6.00 of it so far. Taking the rest back tomorrow. It's the molding I want but can't get it cut right (angles). They always come out with one being too wide or too short where they butt together. This is very frustrating. I think the only type of molding that is going to fit is some I'll rip down from the tongue and groove I'm using. :?

What sort of lock(s)/hasp do you want, external or internal?
For external there are a number of SS marine hasps with various configurations.

ok it took about 10 minutes of looking to realize you are talking about the bottom tail gate portion ( I think) Go to google or yahoo images and type in cam locks this may give you other ideas.

I think a garage door style turn bar would be nice for the upper hatch

If you were wanting to use plain draw latches you could use them on the back where the hatch meets the bottom part. Nice and flat. But the latches and locks would show from the back. If you wanted something on the side, how about doing something like Mike did on one of his?

Of course, I could be all wrong and not understand what you want

Found one !

They also make them keyless with a thumb turn as well so no keys are needed.

It looks as if your top hatch closes over the tailgate so by locking the top hatch the bottom is secure

Maybe, kinda sorta, HUH ??????????

Bob henry:
how do those work? Would I have to cut slots in the side of the galley walls?

Planovet: That is awesome. Is that just an angle bar and the hasp attached to one end? I amagine he drilled the holes to match the hasp.[/b]

You could do that or build up a ledge for it to catch on.

You would have to ask Mike. I think he took some bar stock, bent it 90 degrees and then drilled holes as needed. But I'm just guessing. Maybe Mike will chime in.

Mark, do you know if Mike has more pictures of that setup and would you have a link to them?

McMaster Carr

I usually grab the type C in stainless steel, but padlockable like type D. If you need the exact part number, I'll look it up when I get home, on Sunday.

That's where I got mine.

Mine are 1807A62. I think they are the same as what Mike got. Look under Padlockable C on this page:

Thanks everyone for your help. I just posted a picture of something I found on line when I did a search for draw latches. It's not a draw latch but it's what I was looking for. Home Depot had it. :o [/img]
