Working with Recycled materials

I just wanted to let everyone know that the Galvanized metal from a former swimming pool worked perfect for the skin on my teardrop. It trims almost as easy as aluminum with the router. Also I Used (2) old screen doors+ Frames/hinges for my actual teardrop door, It worked excellent. I took the aluminum screen doors apart, Cut to the desired size, and reassembled it. Then i trimmed the hinges/frame to size and mounted them as well looks factory and the best part is, it was FREE!!!!

Cool...I like the idea of giving materials a second life. Do you have any more pictures of your progress?

On a side note, I moved down here from Tiverton, RI three years ago...miss it very much. Lived in Bristol for quite a few years as well. Welcome to the board.

Extra lexan that I didn't need for the build was put to use as a rock guard under the floor. The lexan sheets were protective hail covers that had been removed from commercial skylights during a demolition.




I even found a unused oak mantle piece ($5.00 yard sale) that became our heardoard. The little shelf comes in real handy at sleepy time.



I really think this should be an opinion poll to showcase the thrift of some builders and that re-purposed items are an expression of the creativity of many of our builders.

P.S. A word of thanks I completely forgot that a storm door can be easily cut down to almost any size. I have 2 in my shed that may soon see a new smaller life, A Fantastic idea

Thanks you all for the comments,anyone can build a great camper with NEW materials but using recycled materials is what makes us creative and green!! Here is my 60% recycled teardrop i am currently building;

My little toy is all recycled stuff except for a sheet of plywood, paint and caulk.
