I used a duct system. The cold air comes out of a vent above, and the returns are duct down by the head. see pics.

Tim,

Nice idea. Really keeps the space inside the teardrop used for better things than an AC. I built in 2005 and did the old fan to suck the hot air through the back of the AC trick. I like your idea better. Can't wait to see how you like it when you get it finished.

I had trouble with mine freezing up by ducting, even with adding duct volume. So, I made a wall hatch with a cover that I remove and slide AC in. Only is in cabin about an inch so dont loose too much room. I just slide it out on a small tarp with a towel under it in case any water remains in it so matress doesnt get wet. Fender helps hold weight while its in. Shove a piece of foam around it in crack while camping so no bugs get in.

Thanks Steve. I have to take a trip to AZ. to get my AC unit from storage so it'll be a while before I actually do install it. When I do I will post pictures of it and keep you informed of how it works out. I don't anticipate any freezing problems because my cabin is air tight and won't be having the AC on for more then 10 or 15 minutes at a time. I think the computer fans I plan to use as a way to suck the cold air through the duct work will work great. Can't wait to try it. :)

Thanks... Been off-line for a while..... and I didnt post a lot to begin with.

Have not had any trouble with freezing up with this set up. The returns are pulling air from the cabin. However, It chills the cabin (5ft wide) to the low 60's/ 50's.... and, it keeps the noise way down from the window shaker.

It is a 5000 unit from Lowes, $99. I just picked up another one for the lastest 4ft wide project in the garage, or the next hurricane.
