New "Temp" family member

Here is a new "temporary" addition to our family!

Image

This is Nash. His Mom, my sister Tracy, is moving to England on Sunday. Kriss and I will be keeping him until October when we will ship him over to her. He is 7 months old now and I get to be his personal trainer for the next 4 months. He already has very good manners as far as 7 months olds go. Just needs some find tuning. Im hoping Cori will help proved some training assistance too.

Only concern we have is that Cori (12 yo Aussie) was diagnosed in March with Severe Disc Degenerative disease and is very wobbly on her back legs and she slips and falls on slick surfaces, its very heartbreaking to see. (Our wood floors are now covered with any and every rug we could get our hands on) We just hope we can keep Nash from jumping on her. Otherwise, we will not be able to keep him.

Any advice out there on how to keep him from hurting her? Thanks.

Too cute!

As far as keeping Nash from jumping on Cori, it will be difficult. Puppies like to play. I would keep them apart at first and put them together only when you can supervise them. If Nash gets too rambunctious then use a stern "NO" and maybe use a can of rocks or pennies to make some loud noise at the same time. After a while hopefully he will learn.

Oh yea, thanks Mark. Great advice. I remember seeing pet owners using cans of pennies before. We will defiantly use that strategy.

Mandy, We have introduced them a number of times, and Cori is none to happy about him. She is a bit grouchy. But he is very submissive around her. We just hope it goes well when he moves in. :worship:

They may just work it out themselves. If he is already submissive with her, just one warning from her may be all it takes for him to understand.
Hope it all works out.

Mary, you do know he will be in quarantine for 6-8 weeks when he goes over?I mention this because it is no fun having your friend in a kennel elsewhere for that long.(and his training may suffer)
I have a Yorkie at my feet who had been adopted for 3 days when her new owner found out she would be going to England with her job.Her initial; assignment was for 3 months and she didn't want to put "Zoe" thru the quarantine process for that.8 weeks into her stay she was offered a permanent position.Knowing we had bonded with Zoe and admitting she had not had time to she suggested that Zoe stay with us.It's kind of nice having a 2 year old around. The next youngest is 9 and the rest are older.
We have a total of 8 with all but 2 and Zoe being rescues.

I did not know that and I am not sure my sister knows either, she has not mentioned it. We know he has to wait 6 months before he can go over there. Thats big a bummer though, 8 weeks in a kennel. :(

Oh I looked it up on the internet and here is what I found

"There may be NO quarantine if you follow the pet passport
program. You need to check with DEFRA which is the
govt authority in UK. There is a link to them from my:
www.actionpetexpress.com It would take approximately
6 to 7 months of processing in the U.S. "

I assume this is what she is doing, keeping him here with me. She has a vet doing the required paperwork. SO hopefully he wont have to be in quarantine.

Thanks for the heads up.
