Coupla things I made

Postby deceiver » Thu Jun 24, 2010 6:30 pm

I made these a couple of weeks ago and got a chance to try them out at Fish Creek in early June. They work!!

This is a tripod for my dutch oven for when I decide to hang it over a campfire. It's just three pipes held together by welding a short piece of chain between them and then a welded long piece with a hook on the end. I vary the height by looping the chain at the top a few times.

The second pict is a copy of the lid lifter you see out there a lot. It's made with a few pieces of steel rod with some nuts welded on for it to slide through. I decided to put a short section of spring on it to have it retract when I let it go. The handle has some clear neoprene tubing on it. Both took about an hour to make. Then finished off with some spray-on black stove paint.

Nice job! Let us know how they work. I've never used a tripod, but have thought about it.

They work great.. That night class in welding was one of the best things I ever did. Welding is actually therapeutic. Wish I had more of it to do. It sure comes in handy when building things. Before I would either forget it or try to figure ways to do it with wood or rivets or screws or something and it usually wasn't working out. It's pretty handy.

Somehow the tripod just seems like outdoor cooking. When I'm not using charcoal with the DO the cast iron hangs over the open fire.. looks very chuck wagon like.
