I went off my build for 4 months, with snow,snot and other interruptions.
Back on it now.

Got the taillight housings welded onto the fenders. Ready for some Bondo to fill in the transitions. The studs inside the tube are to hold older model Chevy truck taillamps in. The studs out the end of the round tubes go through the side and frame to hold everything securely as shown below.

The missing lug nuts got hijacked onto one of my job trailers. Thinking of chrome acorn nuts for TD

A 3/4 view showing that I need to get moving on the galley as we are hoping to be finished for " Crusin' with the Oldies'" Memorial weekend.

Well....... I got the skin on the sides and..... Lovely Assistant looked at the mill finish aluminum and stated " That doesn't work for me"
I knew polished wouldn't work for me ( TOO MUCH WORK FOR ME )....... Paint was out....
So here is our compromise.

Here I am starting on the other side. ALWAYS wear a dust mask when sanding or polishing aluminum !


Here is what I used. Scotchbright 2" fine grit polishing disks on a 1 1/2" square grid.

And another view of the jig clamped to side of trailer.
I'm going to do the top skin on the bench, HAS to be easier ( I hope!)

I should really try stuff like that, it makes a HUGE difference to the overall look.

Im with you on that one Grizz, I could do with doing something similar on mine, but i have two lamps to fit on either side, and at the moment i cant find any pipe to fit the lamps into.
Alan, i love the patterned sides, as the ally skin i will be using on my roof has one or two scratches in it, i think i will steal your wonderfull idea
Do you plan on sealing the sides with a clearcoat, or just leaving it ?

Hi sagebrush: I like the frenched tail lights. You don't see that done much anymore. Your choice of fenders is a unique one using a dual axle trailer fender that you cut in half and got two out of it. That gives them the swoopy look that makes them different than what everyone else has out there.

I would get the chrome acorn lug nuts like you said. I would check into some chrome or SS center hub caps, too. This will finish off the wheels and dress up the trailer. That is if you can take your eyes off the TD it's self long enough to see the wheels.

Love your teardrop. You are doing some fine work. The mill finish on the sides are something unique to your build. In the EDR at work along the self serve bar all the stainless has that same mill finish. Good at hiding oily finger prints and dirt. Love the custom fenders.

Well...Been busy with real job, but had a couple of rain days. That with odd minutes before and work I am making a little progress.


The windows are trimmed out, and ceiling light and vent installed. Have a request in with Little Sister for curtains.

Here Lovely Asststant caught me applying spot filler to fenders.They are almost ready to prime and paint.

The plate is installed, all ready to roll! ( It ain't dark, we don't need lights!)

Here I am demonstrating my hi-tech 1x2 hold open device. There is never any wind around here to drop the hatch on the noggin!
Need to line hatch and get gas struts still.

Well.........Maybe lights wouldn't be that bad of an idea just in case we are caught in traffic! A better view of drawers and doors. Thats all for now folks.

All is not good with the fenders. I got impatient painting them and ended up with alligator finish on them. So.....lots of sanding and grumbling later they are ready for paint again. The hurrier I get the slower it goes. Will

Well here is my latest update. Been getting a few minutes here and there and SHAZAM...... Got quite a bit done!

Got the fenders squared away and mounted. the yellow rectangle on rear is actually red reflector tape.

Here is the front showing the battery box and front of other fender. Going to borrow battery from our dump trailer. If we are camping we won't be using dump trailer and verse-visa.

No way to calculate the time that went into these safety pins! Now we have to decide on a shakedown cruise.
