couple of questions

Postby officersdr » Sun Jul 04, 2010 12:16 pm

I'm brand new to this and had a couple of questions for you guys....

Now my problem is that I have 2 kids and myself and my wife....after some digging I found this design that would work for us. http://tnttt.com/viewto ... sc&start=0

What's with the drop floor?? is it only for the height?? What are the depths of the galley's usually?? I was figuring around 24" deep??? I have heard about a spreadsheet that helps you figure out your budget for building a trailer, but I can't find it......Does anyone have this??

2. My galley is about 20" but it is different. Be sure you get your cabin needs first!

3. Some of the dropped floors are for storage and some are for your feet If you have a table.....

Haven't seen a budget sheet. You can easily make your own. Just figure each cost and add at least 10% for those mods we all have..... 8)

drop floor and galley depth

Postby danlott » Sun Jul 04, 2010 1:36 pm

This is the layout of the design you are considering.

The drop floor where the door is located is for extra vertical room to allow for standing/stooping to be able to get dressed easier. There is also a dropped floor storage area located under the bottom front bunk bed area. This will be used for a spare tire and storage.

By the way. This design can be built faster and easier without the trolley top and would still have pretty good headroom.

Thanks Dan....I love that design, it would give me the room for the kids as well as for us.

Do you any measurements?? What size will your TD be completed??

I'm mainly curious of the height because I'm 6'2" and I don't know how much of drop I would have to get for the head room to be around 6'

That's also a GREAT place for the spare tire

headroom

Postby danlott » Mon Jul 05, 2010 12:53 am

The headroom, with the trolley top and a 6" drop floor, is 5' 11.5". You could have more of a drop floor to get extra headroom. The exterior body length will be 13 feet long and the interior width will be 77 inches. You may consider making your interior width 80 inches due to your height.

I will be glad to help you with measurements and such. I hopefully will be making sawdust in a month or so. Have IRG coming up next week and then another vacation planned just a week after that. Plus still working on a remodel of our house, but should be finishing that up real soon. I do plan on taking lots of pictures and detailing my build as I go along.

I'm looking forward to to seeing your progress.

I hear you on the house reno's, I'm starting to teal my roof off this week. I'm hoping to start in October and have it ready for her maiden voyage in May. Then we have a trip planned to NYC from the pacific northwest and that's mainly why I'm building her.....aside from the fact they're FREAKIN' COOL.

Mine will be on a 7x14' chasis...It will have a 30" deep galley, queen size bed placed width ways on the chasis, 30" " hallway" then twin size bunk beds. It should sleep us 4 and the dog just fine......It's about the same layout as my last tent trailer.

I'll try to figure out how to post pics and post my quick drawing I did.....Not good with the CAD programs, so drawing on graph paper will do.

Budget, what budget? That gets discouraging. I started bargain shopping in November for goodies like a sink, microwave, TV and AC. I cleaned out the shop in February and sold enough crap out of said shop (including 68 lbs of scrap brass) to get the axle and metal for the frame in March. I'm currently building on weekends and so far have budgeted $100/month which has worked out great and has allowed me to get odds and ends like a power center and lights when I didn't need wood.
