Quick question on tongue box outlet and running lights

Postby Aint2Proud » Mon Jul 05, 2010 8:27 pm

Ok, I have my wiring plan (sorry no drawings). I am only doing a 12v system. I am using 10 guage from the battery in the tongue box to the fuse box (located in the cabinet between the cabin and galley). I am using 12 gauge for all the branches. My main issue is that I want to have a 12v outlet in the tongue box for accessories.

Do I run a wire back from the fuse box or can I run a fused wire directly from the battery? I have zero experience with this so I apologize.

How do people run the wires for marker lights? I have a 3/16th thick 2" square tube frame (should be done this week!). My outer wall will cover the frame and I have a 3/4 poplar board between the outer skin and the frame. I am building an 11' profile on an 8ft frame. My thoughts were I can either mount the marker lights ahead of and behind where the frame ends or I can drill through the 1x 4 subframe that rests on the frame. Which one would be better? Thanks.

Ryan,

Sound's like running a fused wire for the battery to the tongue box is the easiest and shortest route.

Either way will work, since both of your suggestion have a fused circuit.

Ditto... Why run extra wire when you don't have to..... The key here is "fused"...

On the running lights, there are a lot of ways to do it. My lights on top will wire through the wall and into the roof cavity, the lower marker lights will screw into the wood walls, and a hole will be drilled through the wall and into the tube frame to facilitate the wires.

OR, I'm still sleping on this one, a groove could be cut in the back side of the wall to allow for the wires to run outside the frame.

If you have composite walls, you could run the wiring through the wall and into the roof cavity. (considered this, but opted not to do it)

Good luck!
