Was a bit hard to tell; but appears that the steel may have been cold-rolled; has no rust scale and is normally oil coated.

Quite possible, ageless. I'd have to call the supplier and ask...

Meanwhile, Thomas, your frame was made w/ thicker-wall tubing -and- will more than likely posess superior strength. Miy frame seems a bit flimsy but only in "beam"; it will definately benefit from a wooden body structure, even an "H" beam (as opposed to an "I" beam) lower portion of a teardrop body bolted to it to improve it's beam rigidity.

Anyway... I spent this afternoon making 12 body mount tabs (and taking measurements then making deciisions for their position) to be welded onto the chassis tomorrow. Pics to follow after.

Well, it took awhile, but I made twelve body mount tabs last Thursday from 1.5 X 1.5" 1/8 angle iron... dunno why I painted the chassis before we welded these things on... maybe it's because I've never done this before? (and I was in a hurry to get some paint on the steel)

Up to this point, all the pictures you've seen of my trailer chassis parts have been taken at one of two friends' shops... I am a fortunate man to have such friends.

It was difficult moving out and moving the build into my one-car garage... but this is where the rest of the interim-body, a "roadster teardrop" if you will, will be made.

Gonna make us a little red wagon... to haul our gear up to the IRG in 9 days... Wish me luck.

Sawdust begins flying tomorrow, the 4th! (later today, actually; heh. The wife and I just finished watching a movie. I rarely do that these days...)

It's nice having a shop to go to Chris...but just think...now that it is at home..you can always go out and work on it a little bit here and there when you want. Since I know about your planned cabin construction...I'll be following with interest. Nice extra lighting! Doug

Unfortuantely, I won't be building a full teardrop cabin; I don't have the time or the skill necessary to complete what I want to do, quickly (before IRG)... so, I'm building a "wagon". Dunno if you'd read that far back.

Ever try to dado a 10 ft piece-O-ply? ...on a small router table?

That was yesterday... today the wife and I went on a spree and bought a gallon of exterior latex, a quart of primer, two bottles of Feed-N-Wax, 12' of tan-colored Sunbrella to tarp the load for travelling (wagon, remember), and some good-quality urethane 3" foam for the mattress...

Then I set about drawing a profile and cleaning up the dados w/ a chisel...

Tomorrow (later today, actually) I'll cut the profile (bottom half of my teardrop profile) then trim 1-3/4" length from the floor, then set the walls and mark the bulkhead dados... then it's rabbeting the front and rear walls, then a dry fit, then GLUE! Then paint... then wiring... then...

I may have pics up after breakfast, before I start work for the day... I'm fading fast at the moment...

Alright... the gardeners are here, blowing crap everywhere so I came into the house...

Here's what I have so far... I have three more dados to cut then a couple rabbets, as I've said earlier... everthing else is prepped and ready for assembly this weekend.

Why am I doing this rather than a teardrop at this time? Because I've a deadline to make the IRG and don't have time to build a full teardrop cabin. Besides, I need the plywood machining experience...
