New Builder from the Shadows of Mt St Helens

Postby BearPa » Sun Jul 11, 2010 10:16 pm

I have just started building a 4x8 TD for my son and his future wife; wedding is Sep 18. I want to get the trailer done before their honeymoon trip to Southern California. I welcome advice and encouragement and I will be searching past posts for help with:

Electrical systems (AC and DC)
Stained wood finishes (urethane VS epoxy, etc.)
General pearls of wisdom

Thanks for your anticipated help!! :applause:

Welome, There is a lot of information here. You'll find that you spend more time in the forums than building. I built a woodie without plans and I think on my next one I will use the Kiss method and plan a little farther ahead. Your son will love it. I can't park it for very long before I have to give an open house. The little oriental ladies love it. Good luck.

Welcome BearPa,

We had the fortune to visit your part of the country a couple of weeks ago. Stunning beautiful!

I'm still building my first teardrop, so I am probably not the best for wisdom. There are two things I would volunteer:

1. Don't overbuild (Even though I read the threads, it is hard to not overbuild your first.)
2. Keep it simple (I have more "bells and whistles" in my build than I will probably use. Camping and comradery is more important than building the teardrop version of a Swiss army knife.)

Sincerely,
Tom

Howdy BearPa,

Best wishes on your build. My advice is keep it as simple as possible. You can always add later.
