Did I have any liability in lending lawnmower to a neighbor?

A neighbor boy came to the Door and asked if he could borrow our lawnmower for his yard not ours ,I don't wanna be unfriendly but I thought what if he became injured? Am I liable for his injuries? Any thoughts?

I personally would not lend anything to a minor that could potentially hurt him.

And, the fact that you are worried he'll get hurt, and posted your concerns in a public forum, would make you liable, I would think. If you know there is a potential for injury, and do it anyway, you are technically being negligent.

A safe way out is for you to mow his lawn this one time. Maybe he can help you with something in return.

Loan it to his parents! Amazing that a kid wants to work...

I agree not to let a kid borrow a power anything. Isn't it sad that we have come this far...

I remember reading about a teenager that got into an accident...his fault. The victims sued not only the teen and his parents but also the aunt because they found out that she had purchased the car for the teen. They won a settlement.

pretty sad day when america comes to this. BUT on the other hand maybe his parents (?) wont let him use their own?

you should ba able to let your neighbor use your lawn mower without worrying about getting sued. growing up where I did it was never even something that would come into your mind.. Im realllly glad I live where I do and dont have these issues..

i think caseydog is just being realistic in todays world..alot of these idiots thought process involves them thinking, hey, they have insurance, why not take advantage of it?

Yes sad shape when we have to discuss loaning a mower out, call it narrow minded if you wish . Just look around.

I never refered to guns or the like. Go start a FIGHT ELSEWHERE!

. . .and no one said you did! Never intended to start a fight - I've noticed that sometimes this happens that a thread goes way off topic (using the gun reference as a point of distraction.) Just wait and see where this one goes before you start TYPING IN ALL CAPS
