I joined the Air Force in 1973, reported for duty on February 28, 1974. When i reported, I was wearing a pair of platform shoes. 6 weeks later, when I got out of basic training and they gave me my civilian clothes back, I threw the shoes in the nearest trashcan. I don't know if they were out of style or not already, but my attitude had changed quite a bit in 6 weeks.
God Bless
